Hey Mac, these are pics from tonight. Nothing has been reset since I picked up the car with 8 miles on it Wednesday of last week. Took the car from 175 miles this morning to 432 tonight with a long drive up into the Rocky's. When I got back the mpg went from 16 to 18.8 as shown in the photo below. The 432 miles is a combo of city(40%) and highway (60%).

Average speed is pretty high but I've been keeping it below the break in numbers

Wow... I thought I was high on my mileage! I'm like 402 miles now but it's been a week and a half that I picked up my car! Haha! Ifly, should I really step up the gas so the valves can get use to it and don't be shy? ALSO, very important, is it true if I do go really fast and before I go home , I should slow down my car for at least 20 minutes so the V8 can rest?

Unbelievable... must be New York stop and go traffic. I haven't had a trip longer than 30 miles (Brooklyn to Staten Island). giants84 - what are you getting?

All I can say is..... Slacker! Or are you on a lease?

Having owned a 2004 Lotus Esprit with twin turbos, I always let the engine run for a few minutes after a spirited drive to ensure the oil did not start to coke inside the turbos, same goes for the X6.

Had 42,000 miles on the last X6 in 2.5 years.

AFAIK, BMWs are auto-cooling the turbos even after you parked them
Plus, all you need is just a couple of minutes of non-spirited drive to cool them

Ifly, not I actually own it! i feel weird for leasing a vehicle! It's not technically " yours" if you know what I mean. I just want to take care my baby that's all but I heard that I should floor it though because it will help later on especially since it's brand new! Do you slow down your car 15 minutes before you go home? I just don't want to ruin it but loving every moment of it!

Hey Mac, not sure did not even bother to check. I imagine it's a bit better than the x5m which I got like 8mpg. On the highway the car is great, spent a little less than a full tank going from bk to mohegan sun and back. Was stuck in traffic on the way there btw, took over 4 hours.

Hi all, I've been following your threads/discussion.. new to this forum.
I'm waiting on my car (went into production 8/24/2012 scheduled completetion 9/7/2012) and am wondering how/where did you find out about which stage your production's at? I remember my sales guy showing me a sheet with those stages (pre-production) but got no help from the bmw website nor 800#. My sales guy had suffered a heart attack and will be out until next week--he said hopefully he'd be back by Thursday 9/6 to see to the completion/delivery of my car... keeping my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, only thing for me to do is to obsessively follow threads and watch the website (which still reports "in production")

thanks for any friendly input!

Bummer on the Sales guy Heart Attack, hope he is OK to return to work so quick!

I got my info from calling the 800# and talking to the Sales manager at the dealership. It seems like some are able to get accurate info and others just wing it! Based upon where you are you should be good for the 6th! Fingers crossed.

Best way to approach this kind of vehicle is to finance it. I have not heard of flooring the car to break it in before. I do drive the side streets at PSL for 5 to 10 minutes before parking although as someone else mentioned there sounds like an oil pump that continues pumping for 5 minutes after the car is turned off. Noticed it tonight when I was changing out the Angel Eye bulbs for LED's. See pics below! They are Weisslicht in case anyone is interested.

Had the clearbra installed today as well, just the side window tint to get done now! I owe Mac some interior pics (keep forgetting, sorry!).

Good info on the ED by the way guys. If I need a runaround 3 series that may be the way to go!
Ifly: How'd you manage to get a loaner while your X6 was being built? I wasn't offered...

Simple, I bought a new 2010 35i X6 in December 2009 and the car had a large number of engine issues and was eventually bought back. Because I chose to remain a BMW customer and order another car BMW NA and the dealership ensured I was not without a vehicle until my new car was delivered. I stay for the customer service even if the car did not work out.
