They are not limited, Honda has never said that. Of course all the dealers are saying that to rile people up. The first run of 6000 by the Spring is confirmed, and Honda has said tehy plan to sell a lot of these.

I've been following on the CivicX forum, and right now it's very tough to get one, especially at MSPR. Most dealers are only getting 1 or 2, and many are adding $5-10k mark up, and many cars are already spoken for. Your best bet is to wait until next Spring, unless you want to pay the mark up of course.

Same thing happened with the Focus RS - it was crazy for the first 6 months/year because there was limited allocation. Now there are literally 1500+ of them sitting on dealer lots throughout the country. You can easily get one for well below MSRP now.

I too have a soft spot for H cars, had a 96' accord that I did a JDM h22 swap on....buddy of mine took it off my hands for his teenage son years ago..and that thing still runs like a top.....
There is also a rumor Honda will be releasing 2-3 variants of the CTR within two years. Don't forget there will be a new s2k as well.

Saw one today on my way home from work and I have to say it looked pretty ridiculous. I'm sure the 25 year old me would have loved it, but at 35, no thanks. That being said, I'm sure it will be a blast to drive.

As much as I dislike this car, what the dealer pulled is totally unacceptable and I hope Honda is having some discussions with this dealership over their conduct. In what universe would this dealer think it's totally acceptable to hold a car hostage like that? They felt it was ok to hold it so others can view the car and not offer any compensation for basically renting the car? At least with new home builders that build a model home and sell it to a new owner, the home builder pays rent on however long they use it as a model home and promises to ensure any wear and tear is addressed before the new owner takes delivery.

See I'd be leaning the other way out of spite. You want to hold my car? Enjoy your bad PR, I'm calling Honda of America and I'm still getting this bitch at MSRP. We can play their waiting game but the dealer still loses.

No doubt I'd make their lives hell, but then I'd want the car for less. Otherwise, fuck off out of spite.

The article has been updated. Apparently they had planned "to rope the car off" as a display only to get people into the dealership and never tried to get more money from her (though they did offer her deposit back to sell it to someone else for more). In the end they delivered the car to her at MSRP and they admitted they were douches.

But if you fuck off they win, you can't let the dealer win.

I'm glad that story worked out in the end, PR is a powerful thing.

Was just browsing cars.com today....there are so many nice cars you can get under $50k (slightly used). You would have to be nuts to pay that for ugly Civic. If you want reliability, get 2015 RC-F or something

Yes, a 4050 pound pig of a coupe with an automatic vs a 2900 pound five door with a manual that would likely best the Lexus on 95% of the tracks you could find makes perfect sense.

I get your point, but the RC-F is the answer to exactly zero car questions. The fact that Focus RSs and STIs are being sold under sticker, or very similar pricing to the CTR is the real problem.

The simple fact that a GTI or a Focus ST are nearly $10k cheaper out the door and quicker in a straight line is another problem.

Let's face it, how many people take their cars around an actual track? Real world scenario it's all straight line, people keep saying "Well, its the fastest FWD car to come out around the ring" and blah blah. But it's only fast in the hands of a professional, you put a normal person in it and they'll be slower than the STI or Golf R or even the RC-F around the track with another average person at the wheel. The point is, 40k+ for a civic that will torque steer and runs 14 second 1/4 mile is really bad for what you pay for. The literal only argument of this car and why people want to buy it is because of the ring time, that's it.

I don't know. Having lived in DFW and So Cal, I've always lived around tracks and nearly all of my enthusiast friends make at least a few trips a year in all kinds of cars.

And fwd, much like awd is very easy to access compared to rwd. I'd guess the average CTR time delta to a professional is a lot smaller than say an M3 or Z06.

And it's $34k, not $40k. Like the Focus RS, markups will be gone in a few months. For MSRP, ignoring discounts on other cars, not much could really touch it. Maybe a Camaro V6 1LE package, but again, that's a big, heavy coupe, not something that can carry bikes, camping gear or kids quite as easily as a (goofy looking) CTR.

Oh, in canada it's 40k CAD, with taxes and everything, it'll be very close to 50k. And apparently the first batch of CTR that is being made, canada is only getting 200 or something like that.

It's just in my area, everyone gets the newest "affordable" car that comes out (Golf R, then Focus RS) and all they do is drag race or street race. Absolutely no track, and on the track when I do go, I do see VW racecars (gutted, rollcage etc..) but no Focus RS or anything of the sort.

To me, Honda is marketing their CTR as a FWD track car and people are buying it due to the hype or whatever the case was, and saying "Oh for the price, this car is fastest than old GT2, GTR, etc.." around ONE track. I'm already tired of the civics with fart cans driving everywhere in my area, I don't need to see a million other CTR trying to race everyone wherever I go.

For $34 it's a decent buy, for $45-50 I would say it's a major rip off
