How did I get such a low discount?
I reviewed my dad's contract when he purchased his x5 in Oct 2008. (I was bored and went digging)
The cars MSRP is $79,300 tax not included. He got a discount of $9600.00 on the vehicle. Thats what it said on the contract and interest rate is 0.9%. My question is the dealer basically gave a 12% discount? The SUV was brand new and it was only the 3 year of the E70 platform. I was only able to get a discount of 6% off my 335i. Wouldn't the dealer lose profit? This is based in canadian pricing. Last edited by Dan_335i; 08-05-2013 at 08:04 PM.. |

There may have been a factory rebate. BMW was giving a $10K rebate when I purchased my X5 M. This is in addition to whatever discount you were able to negotiate with your dealer.

I bought an X5 during the same time. Here in the states, it was the major housing crash. I purchased mine in September of 08. They still had a bunch of X5's, barely any sales people and were willing to negotiate to just get the car off the lot. In addition, they were offering 0.9%. I purchased my $57k X5 for little over $50k. My brother purchased a 5 series with the same discount.
In comparison, I was reading on the boards people buying X5's for almost MSRP just 3-4 months prior. |

Depending on the time of purchase, the dealership often gives factory rebates. Normally this has to do with supply and demand of the vehicle and overall inventory and when the following year's model is coming out. If you want to get the best deal on your car, check out unhaggle.com and it will tell you how much the dealer pays for the car.
