E71 X6M Spark Plug Advice
soon i ll change the oil, filters etc and i want to change the spark plugs also i feel like car needs it since im not the first owner i definitely ll change it.. the ones that official service sells are probably NGK's or Bosch's or something.. any advice for a spark plugs? preferably with part codes? cause sometimes official service is not selling the best one for the engine..
and about the oil.. BMW recommends Castrol 5w/30 as all we know for S63.. but engine is eating oil with that configuration.. after i changed to Castrol 0w/40 i have no oil burning or eating issue anymore (no reference, was my decision).. till now i never i used different oil configuration any of my cars but i ll stick with it.. anyone using different oil also? and experience about it? thank you. |

Stick with the factory plugs I had misfires on all kinds of crazy stuff and if you go to an indy shop make sure the part number matches up exactly with the m logos on them. As far as oil I've also tried 0w 40 but the oil filter make sure you use original I've had worn oil pump sprockets and oil pump issues that took forever to fix and diagnose

Yep... that’s the OEM plugs...50K intervals... just did mine... (2nd set)... the plugs that came out looked fine...So not changing them again at 50k...I’m on original coils....new plugs are easier on coils...it will be interesting fiinding out how long the original coils last...
The Castrol FST in Canada is C3/ LL04.... So definitely an acceptable HPHS oil.. Last edited by Bilbofraggins; 01-09-2019 at 11:34 AM.. |

X6M Plug gaps? miss fires
Would anyone know what plug gap to run on a X6M 2009? Have been having a load of issues with missfires etc, Changed plugs and Coilpacks using NGK plugs and Delphi packs, made it worse, Then changed set of injectors, stil no good, now have put in a set of genuine M plugs, much better but getting a random miss fire on cold start, cylinder 4 and 7, could it be plug gaps? or cam sensors? losing the will to live with it.

I'm pretty sure mine where pre-gapped at .32 (.8mm metric)...They are BEW OEM....due to previous issues like yours...I always stay with OEM, or equivalent same brand after market...which for the X6M is Bosch..

I'm halfway through the life of my 3rd set of plugs so still have 25,000KM to go.
That being said, I'm still running fine on original ignition coils. Who has replaced their Ignition Coils - quite a few options out their these days....A few years ago, ELDOR (Eldor 12135A06753) were the lastest big thing - not many around now. Now OEM is DELPHI....(BMW 12138616153) or BOSCH (0221504470) although there are of plenty of alternatives, listed for instance by DELPHI Who is using wha these days? At what point did you start to have coil issues? Insight Appreciated? |

Recommended......, since we are building this for alottttt of power, are 2 step colder NGKs.
I bought them from burger tuning https://burgertuning.com/products/ng...nt=42124774926 colder spark plugs WILL GIVE a rough idle until the engine warms

I’ll be staying with Bosch plugs…when I change in 25000 Km or likely more….If I was in Dubai - or another hot region then maybe I’d try the NGK - with meticulous gap conformity; but I’m in Canada…
Personally, too many down sides, and not worth the risk with colder plugs in the S63 - outweighing the potential benefit for me… although the NGK 97506 (SILZKBR8D8S) is standard in my sons 2015 X3 with the N20. “Cons of Colder Spark Plugs While colder spark plugs offer several benefits, they also come with some potential drawbacks. Here are some of the cons of using colder spark plugs: Potential Misfires Colder spark plugs can be more prone to misfires, especially if they’re not installed correctly or if the engine is not tuned properly. Misfires can cause damage to your engine and can be expensive to repair. Cold Starting Issues Colder spark plugs can also cause cold starting issues, especially in colder weather. This is because the colder temperature of the plug can make it more difficult to create a spark, which can make it harder to start the engine. I recently purchased a set of the NGK 97506 from ECS Tuning only to find that they did not match the old plugs, which are ZMR5-TPP-33. ECS does have plugs listed as ZR5-TPP-33. Does anyone know if those are the proper fit?
