They are really not the same size. ;-) Seriously, go measure, one mans 315/xx/xx could vary 10-15mm smaller or larger than another tire. There isn't a great standard to this number. There are even cases of two "same sized," tires but one is for a BMW, the other for all else, and there is a 5-10mm delta in actual size.

Yep. Same for the fronts. I have an non-RFT on the right front now, and the OEM Bridgestone RFT on the left front. Both are the same size, but the non-RFT is skinny enough to where I have to be careful if I ever get too close to the curb as it has a bit of "stretch" to it almost. You clearly see the edge of the wheels on the non-RFT, as to where the RFT nicely cups over it.

Any chance you can post some RFT vs. non-RFT pics of the rim?

Guess I should get another alignment?

Do you have the print-out from you last dealer alignment? Please share ... if you can.

Here's an example of a decent (not mine) BEFORE and AFTER alignment on an X5. Have a close look at the numbers and the so called "BMW spec range" (very wide!):

Here is the printout I got from Pepboys. I guess I should have them do it again? Will this cause uneven tire wear?

Yeah, not good! Worse than it was before ...

Bring in the one that I posted and say "duplicate".

I hate to threadjack, but I've got a similar, but different situation.

13 x5 3.5i with M Sport and Active Steering

I recently installed DW's on my car and had it immediately re-aligned. See the results below. The toe on the rear is a bit high compared to whats recommended here, but my bigger problem is the car pulls to the right "moderately." Any suggestions on what to change to fix the problem?

On a site note, my impressions thus far are similar to most, where increased ride quality is traded off for looser steering.

Thanks in advance.

Actually your numbers look really good, but the fact that you have active steering and now have a moderate pulling problem, suggests that something is off ... Active steering requires a slightly different approach when setting up for an alignment. Can't recall exactly what ... Google it and compare to what procedure the shop has used. If different, redo.

Higher toe-in on rears is not significant, but don't go over 0.04 each. Keep camber in the middle and symmetrical.

PS What kind of shop did you go to? Equipment used?

I went to a speciality alignment shop that utilizes the Hunter Hawkeye system. Fortunately, the cost is only $70 with a 6 month warranty.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll google and post back what I find.

Can you give us the shop name? Do they have nationwide locations?

Southwest Alignment in Houston. Definitely not a chain.

I've read so much contradictory information on the web in various forums about whether aligning with active steering is any different than a standard one--not sure what to believe.

Did you look it up? And compare to what your shop did?

AFAIK, vehicles with active steering *may* require recalibrating the steering angle sensor post-alignment, for which the dealerships charge about 1hr of labor, regardless of whether recalibration is required. An active steering fault will be thrown if recalibration is needed. FWIW, I got an alignment done, without need for recalibration (mine has AS as well).

Those of you running the non-RFT's, I am assuming you have a spare? I have the 3rd row so no spare - still considering going with the all seasons because I don't want to deal with another set of wheels tires.

Has anyone dealt with BMW roadside assistance? Would they help me out if I got a flat?

EDIT: They do mention flats in the brochure

I heard from a friend that all you need is BMW assistance when running non RFTs. So I'm holding off on getting a spare for now.

I'm switching to DWS and ordered a spare from bimmerzone. $300 bucks is worth it especially for long trips in this big country of ours.

would a 285/30ZR22 front and 295/25ZR22 rear for a staggered setup be a good choice? They also have a 285/35 but i really don't know the difference.

Ordered one with the jack kit and tote. I don't have the 3rd row seat so I'm planning to store it in the compartment under the trunk floor.

Hi guys.

I just got the alignment done at the BMW dealer and the report I received is below. I'd appreciate any opinions/issues/suggestions?

I believe toe is too high. You'll want that as close to zero, but not zero (0.02 is ideal, according to experts at bimmerfest).
