Automatic night mode for CIC Nav?

I ddi a quick google search, it seems that different cars have different options. I have a 2010 X5M, updated CIC firmware and 2016 maps. The night mode is not automatic. I would expect that the map would switch from day to night mode automatically like it does in every other car i've ever owned. I'm pretty sure it did it on it's own in my old X5's with CCC...
Is there a way to maybe enable the automatic switching by coding the CIC module?

Pic of the night mode option... I find it annoying to have to turn it on manually everytime it's dark out. Driving around with the map in Day mode is very distracting at night

I don't think I've ever used the maps in my BMW. Since I'm Waze, I cannot wait til there's a technology where I can just beam what's on my iPhone to the screen in my car.

It's called Mirrorlink. Some pioneer and Sony aftermarket headunits have it, dont know of any OEM's that dabble in that. Probably too much liability.

Right. My friend has it in his Excursion and it looked and worked great. Touch screen and everything. But not something we can do in our X5s.

Buy an F15 if you want it to work. This feature was available since the E46, and it never worked then either

To my knowledge, this feature can't be automatically turned on/off with the ambient light sensor, not sure if there is a way to code the car for it to work tho. This is really annoying as my old 07 infiniti had it and a X5M from 2013 still doesn't, one thing u can do is set the function as one of the memory buttons for shortcut, so u can turn it on/off without going through all the sub-menus

THIS!

I love those shortcut buttons! So much more than FM station memory...
One thing I found I can't do is have it go to a specific artist or playlist on my connected iPod, which makes sense because it is an EXternal device.

Got that mode on my #6 memory button.
P.S. Not all settings can be set to memory buttons. For example, DRL on/off cannot be set to a memory button.
