Recommended dash cam?

So I was reading this thread today about someone who valeted their M4....

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1081280

and it occurred to me that I self park/valet about 50/50. However, I wouldn't mind having something to record what happens to the car when I do valet/drop for service/etc. Anyone have any good recommendations? I'm looking for something very discreet that's essentially plug and play.

I'm happy with my blackvue, but there are so many to choose from on the market. And many are just rebrands from the same Chinese manufacturer.

I have Blackvue Dr500, it is good.
there are new models out, Dr-600, Dr650 etc
Easy to install, like plug and play.
You can buy it off from ebay.

I used that once to check the valet guys as well
In NYC, i dont have any problem with the valet parking.

Hmm. How do you use it to check on valet guys? I assume yours is hardwired? Otherwise, what prevents the valet from unplugging it before going on a joyride?

I just review that when I felt something wrong, because I can check the playback before I leave the parking lot or after.

Blackvue offering the wifi connection with iOS or android

The dash cam will start when the car start.
It is pretty much got everything, the valet parking in NYC wasn't that bad.

Parking on the street is costing more because NYC parking is a joke. Scratches front and rear.

FineVu and Blackvue seems to be the most popular options. It depends what features you are looking for i.e. front and rear camera, lcd screen etc.

I myself have been debating getting one on the X5 while I was stationed in Korea. The only issue was they wanted to install a separate battery to power the dash cams for parking mode. I just wasn't comfortable with possible warranty issues about the extra battery.

I am thinking about getting the Blackvue DR650GW-HD. Do you power the dashcam thru the cigarette lighter or hardwire to the battery? I was thinking about buying the Magic Port or whatever it is called so I can get Parking mode.

I bought the Blackvue with the front and rear cameras. I got the Magic power kit so I could use the parking mode without fear of running my battery down.

I haven't installed the rear camera yet. Going to do it at the same time as my rear laser diffusers.

Blackvue works great! It would be nice to be able to view the camera remotely.

Look up Dashcam Store installation kit. I found this a couple of days ago. Seems like a nice alternate to cig light power and the Power Magicjack Pro. It's a fuse tap on one end with the mini usb plug on the other side to power the dash cam. No splicing required, seems pretty easy to install.

Have Blackvue fixed the overheating issue? I like my 400, but the necessity to take it apart every few months to clean the sensor and replace batteries is really annoying.

I have the black box cameras in both cars. They are bigger than the others posted but are cheaper. I am able to hide them behind the rear view mirror so the size is not an issue. I also use a 5 volt converter to tap into 12v in the overhead console.

Also I used these to stick to the coated portions of the windshield where the suction cup will not stick.

From what I understand, yes. The overheating problems were fixed with the 500 series.

It'd be nice if there was a way to tap into the front, rear, and side cameras already on the car. Or for BMW to just program the HDD in the dash to be able to record these cameras already mounted in the car! Hmm. Next get rich quick idea right there?

I'm interested in getting one to document insane idiot bike riders with a death wish. If you want to share the road, ya gotta follow the rules...

They constantly blow stop signs here in the city. There's also a biker gang (pedal and spandex) in my neighborhood that like to blow out of a blind train bridge tunnel on the wrong side of the road on Saturday while they play tour de Northside.
