2008 X5 3.0i to 4.4i Engine Swap
I currently have a 2008 BMW 3.0i, which I love, but I'm not happy with the output and response of it. Friends of mine have a x5 v8 and I like the pick up on that. I was wondering how hard it would be to swap out the v6 for a v8. Would I run into any trouble doing so? If so what problems? Please answer if you have done this before or have any input. Thanks.

Absolutely not worth the pain. Trade it and buy a v8 - don't even *consider* messing with the engine!

Be aware that the V8 is very thirsty my friend so unless you absolutely need the extra power or you have money to spare then stick with the 3.0L engine.

interesting responses. I was considering the same thing ... now that the X5 has the X6 engine (turbo).
Completed a lot of aethetics to the exterior, so parting with it is not really a favorable option (imo, its one of the better looking X5s in S. Florida). Still, I'm considering the X5M or maybe even the X6 and slapping a performance chip in her fat @$$. But, gotta get this new home thing settled and see what my $$$ is like before I chase my big boy toys. |

I didn't like the output on my 2009 x5 3.0 either so I traded it for a 2011 35d and love it. The pick up is so much better. The $3500 Eco credit made it even more worth it.

The X5M is quite the gas guzzler, even more so than the 4.8 V8 in the '08 - 10 models. I would recommend if you are looking new to consider the N63 (50i) X5 instead of the M. If you go with the X6, get an N54 for better mod performance support, or 50i version. Just realize that you will loose out on cargo and rear passenger space with the 6 (reason I didn't go with it). It's a sexy ride, don't get me wrong, but utility wise, it sucks (unless your planning on keeping the X5 and adding the X6 to your garage)
