Adaptive Drive Questions
Sorry, relatively new X5D owner. I got Adaptive Drive in my used 09 X5 35d, it was part of a $3,500 sport package.
I have two questions about it: 1. Does adaptive drive still work when the sport button isn't pushed? I think it doesn't roll that much without it pushed, but to be frank, I've not driven a non-AD X5 before so I don't have a reference. 2. My friend is shopping for a new X5, and he went to the web site to build a 35d and only found the Sport Package, there was no Adaptive Drive listed. I read online that it is now a separate option, but I do not see the separate $3,500 option for AD anywhere. I built an X50i for giggles and it was clearly in that build, but not in the 35d. Is it no longer an option for 35d's? Thanks, Brian |

Thanks. How does one find it on the bmwusa.com configurator? After watching the video, thanks for sharing by the way, it seems the sport button isn't activating it, just probably tightening valve timing more upfront. Can anyone confirm?

It's a priority 1 option and used to be listed under the options tab IIRC. It's listed on the ordering and pricing guide though, option 2VA, available on the 35i premium, 35i sport activity and 35d. The only one it's not offered on is the base model 35i.

Adaptive Drive is active at all times and it is what makes the ride smoother on your car than other X5s without it. When I push the Sport button in mine I can clearly feel the difference i.e. still smooth but more controlled and tighter around the bends with even less body roll at higher speeds. I have tested the system on a couple of freeway on-ramps and my favorite local winding road and I perceive a clear difference. If you don't feel it, yours may be malfunctioning.

On the web site, I clearly see it under options for 35i premium, 35i sport and 50i, but it is completely missing for 35d on the web site.
