Reverse Camera Horrible?

Hey guys is the reverse camera horrible at night or is it just me?

I have a 2009 bmw x6. At night time the camera is basically useless.. Is it just me or is there a fix to adjust the camera?

yes, adjust the brightness of it. When I picked up my 12' x6 first time also found similar problem.

Adjust the brightness as wzj519 suggested.

I have absolutely no problem with mine and find the quality of the image to be quite good actually.

Year 2009 cars have a lower resolution rear view camera than year 2010 and up. Adjusting the brightness will not help.

it sucks so bad on the 09, makes me wanna shoot myself.

Can we not just remove it and put a new camera in there?

You can get an upgraded backup camera image to the nav screen.. the real question is simply how much is that going to cost you... I have a 2011 and my image is good but fwiw I would suggest contacting the guys at Bimmer-Tech.net or similar BMW aftermarket that specialize in technology upgrades...

I'm surprised its not as simple as upgrading the rear camera itself but even if its not I'm sure you can swap out whaever components are needed to add either the upgraded (2010 & up) camera or third party camera upgrade..

No don't worry the BMW cam is terrible at night even on my 12. my 09 was worse, it needs a brighter reverse light to illuminate the surroundings. someone installed a LED reverse light to their X5 on here that would help brighten things up back there at night

Any problem can be solved with a credit card... I have the NAV-Tech module and aftermarket Boyo camera in my X5 which is amazing in low light.. pretty much sees in the dark and is crystal clear.. NAV-Tech makes a module for the X6.. you can simply bypass the OEM camera and go aftermarket.. Add a NAV-Tech and new camera and problem solved...

fwiw - In my 2011 X6 my camera is pretty good, no complaints but does not produce the low light images the boyo does... still I'm not backing up in the dead of night to some warehouse loading stolen sneakers The OEM camera gets a B in my book... I have heard the 2008/2009 camera's had very poor low light sensitivity...
