35d Oil Change DIY and regular maintenance?
I searched and learned useful info but it didn't answer all my questions. I'm coming from a Z4M (E46 ///M engine) with tons of info. Most forums have this stuff stickied?
Keep in mind I'm looking for diesel-related info. 1) Is there a DIY with oil volume and torque specs? 2) How often do enthusiasts change their oil? For example, BMW recommends every 15K for my Z4M but I change it every 7K. 3) Is exhaust fluid something you need to replace or just top-off? How often? 4) I've learned about the fuel filter every 20K so I think I'm good there. Any other regular maintenance? Thanks guys

Even though DIYs do exist at least on xoutpost, the oil change on 3.5d is very straightforward (it even has a dip stick!) and very simple w/o instructions.
Given you needlessly change oil more frequently than BMW recommends, anything ppl say here re frequency will be pointless since it will probably contradict your beliefs. |

I have yet to find a pictorial DIY on the oil change. When time comes, I'll stick my head under there and figure it out. There is only 1 drain pan.
DEF can be topped off anytime or when your warning prompt comes up. There are YouTube vids of how to use the bottle. Pro tip, buy only 1 BMW bottle of DEF, and after use, cut the bottom and use it as a funnel for future fills. DEF is cheapest from Walmart or amazon. |
