Windows randomly opening in X6 50i xDrive (2009)
Hi everyone,
My friend has a X6 50i xDrive (2009). He says that a few times every month, the car's windows randomly open (fully), along with the sunroof. He says that it happens when the car is turned off. He comes to open his car, and notices that all of the windows are open, with the sunroof as well. Now, here in Montreal, this is terrible in winter. He says that a lot of snow once fell into the car... Why can this be happening? Any help is appreciated. Thank you, -Avi

Also, The windows and sunroof open, but do the doors stay locked?

It's happened to me a few times. Locked the car and put the key in my pocket and my house keys pressed against the Unlock button. The doors stay locked but all the windows open up. Another time my friend had to get something out of the trunk. He pressed and held the Unlock button rather than just quickly press the Unlock button....all the windows opened up.
Pretty sure this is what's happening. |

See if he has the auto lock if doors aren't opened turned on (I forget the exact name). It is where the doors will re-lock if not opened within 30 seconds. If that is on, and he is accidentally pushing the unlock button (it can happen, especially when wearing jeans), then the windows would open, along with the sunroof, and since the doors were not unlocked, they would re-lock 30 seconds later.
So... Turn off that option (under door locks I think in settings), and if he finds that his windows are open and the sunroof is open AND the doors are unlocked, then well, he is either pressing the key or his car is possessed.

However, it was my fault. At night, I would hold the lock button down to make sure the thing was locked---kind of like an OCD ritual. Make sure it's not kids playing with keys too. Finally, check the key fob to see if key fob still has a springy action on the lock button. If that were failing then you would have similar problem. |
