Did you buy it new? Did you ever have the door handle replaced at all? if you bought it used, maybe something happened to the original door handle and it was replaced with the cheaper non-key version.

If the car battery is indeed dead, that isn't going to work.

Someone installed the keyhole cover but didn't install the keyhole behind it. When you replace the keyhole cover, you can choose to leave it off - which makes for a easier reinstall, but if you need to get in the car and battery is dead, your only choice to to break a window.
I did this on mine - replaced it with one from IND.

I would at least remove the grills and see if you can remove the hood latch. Not and e70 but could be useful.

yea and BMW assist cant do if dead battery, but anyways I would need the damn password, etc and thats all locked in the car!

Damn. Now I'm thinking of pulling mine back off and installing the module behind it. The problem I was having at the time was that the tabs didn't quite fit in the cover so I couldn't get the cover on and since it was getting dark and cold, I just left it off. But, now that winter is over, maybe I should try again.

Here is what should be behind the cover had it been installed:

I used a dremmel to shave some of the plastic off the back of the IND keyhole cover. Once complete, I reinstalled the door locking mechanism shown a post above and then the keyhole cover fit snugly over it

The price of style.

I miss the old days when cars had keyholes at every door.

hmm, at least no window was broken. Because of your post, I actually took my keyhole cover off today and used a dremel to shave the plastic tabs a little so I can fit the locking mechanism behind it.
Good luck on finding the cause of the battery drain.
