Question X5 Stone Chip Repair recommendations?

To all the experts out there, what do you do with stone chip on your new X5s? Touch up or clear bra? I am battling between clear bra and total original re-paint after a few years (paint only to parts that have heavy stone chips like hood and front bumper - BMW dealer quote is about $1000 including taxes)....cause I knew people who have clear bra and still get stone chips elsewhere...didnt wanna spend the money for clear bra and save for later for original re-paint.

Thanks everyone in advance.

If they are bad now then respray and then clear bra it. If not bad yet then wait until it drives it you crazy enough then respray and then clear bra it.

Chips will happen and a complete respray will not bring you any money towards resale for the cost of a respray/repaint and could hurt resale value depending on the quality of the paint, matching of the OEM orange peel, etc.

get a clear bra. totally worth it, esp on the flares, rockers, hood, and mirrors. idk if you have msport or not but the paint on those flares will get sanded off by rocks with time, mine were ruined after 2k miles

That might be one reason but he might not have the right thickness of film on his flares. I asked for a thicker one to be put on my flares and rockers and I'm now at 15.5k miles and they still look good. The regular film will get ruined from the "sandblasting" and you'll have to replace it within a few months. Normal thickness works for the other parts of the car

I have an Msport and the day I took delivery I had 3M 14 mil thickness put on the sides, rockers and flares. Had the venture shield 8 mil thickness on the entire front and hood. After 1 year and 10,000 miles. No rock chips and the clear bra is completely shiny and intact. I also put all seasons on when I bought. Those sticky summer tires pick up more sand and grit from the road and sling it on your car. I spent $1400.00 on it, which seems like a lot, but then my X5 looks brand new and I don't have to worry about a respray so I'm completely satisfied.

No this is something you want to have professionally done. The guy that did mine spent 10 hours on it and he's installed this on hundreds of cars.

Do not install the clear bra over any areas that have chips!!! All that will do is magnify the appearance of them, you need to put it on an un marred finish, so you may as well paint it, then clear bra it, or live with it for now.
