Long term computer users

Have you noticed your eyesight ever diminishing or getting blurry as the day goes on?
Any of those blue screen filters work?

I have had 50/20 vision all my life until this year. Between high blood pressure and more desk time at work I feel like I struggle to focus my eyes more. I know this isn't a medical forum but many of you also have a lot of daily screen time. Just wondering before I procrastinate another few months to make an eye exam appointment.

I started having trouble with all things close-up in my 50's. Tri-focals helped for a few years but the presbyopia and near-sightedness combo became unbearable (eye strain).

So, I did the Lasik deal 16 years ago. I was 58. Today all I need is reading glasses for close-up stuff. Since Lasik, the eye strain is gone.

100%. Mine started when I was 35. I also changed jobs that had more screen time. Blue blockers did zero for me. I tried several.

I went to the eye doc and told him my issue. He gave me a script that have a super close focal range, but things get blurry quick after 5-6 feet. Took a little bit of time to adjust to, but I LOVE them now. I'm 15 years in and still use them every day.

Headaches- gone, not being able to see after 7-10 hours of spreadsheet work - gone. Finding myself leaning further and further in later in the day - gone.

It was all about my age and constant screen use. I've since (around 40ish) gotten a every day script too, but I still use my close up for work and reading books.

If you have great eyesight your whole life, you don’t necessarily notice the gradual decline until all of a sudden something bugs you. I had great eyesight, or so I thought, until I tuned 52 a year ago and I had trouble reading some small print. I tried reading glasses for the first time and all of a sudden realized my eyesight had probably been in decline for a while. Think I last went to eye dr in 2018 or 2019 so guess it’s time to go again.

I've been a computer geek since '84.

Bifocal contacts FTMFW!!! At least until I get cataracts at 25% (where insurance will pay), or win the second chance on a scratcher and can have the lens replacement lasix.

I have specific glasses for when I'm at specific computers. I have 3 different focal planes anyway, distance, anything in the 2-6ft range, and reading. My "laptop" glasses are bifocals with distance (so I can see the TV) and mid-range lenses. That way I can easily jump back and forth from the TV to my laptop. My "office" glasses are mid-range up top for looking at my big computer screens and reading lenses on the bottom. If I walk out of the office with them on, I can't see clearly past 6ft or so.

All my eye issues started in my late 40's. I didn't need glasses for anything before then. Now I can't see anything clearly with no glasses. I'm also waiting for the cataracts to get to the point I can have the surgery.

Sux getting old. But it beats the alternative.

As the day goes on, no. Eyesight is important to me so I take time midday to rest them and excercise my eyes. So far so good, no fatigue or corrective lenses needed in my late 30s.

You're a baby. Give it 15 years. You'll be amazed at how fast it turns the corner and goes to shit.

For me it started with needing a flashlight to do tasks that I normally wouldn't need one for. Then I started having to hold things further and further away from me to see them. I just have glasses for reading and computer work. if I dont wear them I get headaches and eye strain by the end of the day.

My folks (both in their mid 70s) both got lens replacement surgery as oposed to Lasik and they swear by it. My 75 year old mom has better eyesight now than I do. I have to have read the fine print for me. LOL.

When I tell people younger than me that it sucks to turn 50, they look at me like it’s only me because they will remain invincible. When I say it to older people, they laugh because they know it’s gonna get so much worse.

Turned 58 last week and I'm not giving in!! My eye doctor has offered me a reading Rx every year for the past 10 years but I refuse. Is my vision getting worse, absolutely! Can I read the newspaper, my computer screen without readers, yes. I'll give in someday, maybe for my 60th!

Welcome to your 40s bitch! I had perfect eyesight until about 10 years ago. My nurse noticed that I was squinting at the computer screen. She handed me a pair of readers and I knew it was downhill from there

This sounds like the "you know you're old" thread but for eyes. lol

I'm 66, got my first computer in the late 70s and have had one since. Started wearing glasses at 15, bifocals at around 40. Needed the bifocals for reading and the computer. Had cataract surgery in my left eye about 15 years ago and the right eye about 10 years ago. One lens is for close up and the other is for distance. Vision is 20/25 but still wear glasses for driving and TV. Don't need them for the computer anymore. Really don't get eyestrain.

Now most of you please gtf off my lawn.

PS - like mentioned above, cataract surgery was a blessing for me.
