How much do you think repainting devalues an x6

How much do you think repainting would devalue an x6 35i (mine is a DSB 2012 bought in 5/11).

I'm considering getting a new car (won't tell you what cause I'll get mega flamed). It's cost is on the order of the MSRP on a pretty well loaded 2014 x6 50.

As an alternative, I was thinking of maybe just doing some freshening up to my car. I currently have the stock 19s from the sport package (didn't get the 214 20s because I don't like them), so 20" wheels would be first on the list. 20" 375 reps or OEM 259s. I'd also black out the front.

Then in 18 months or so have it repainted white. I'd use a good shop. I don't want to do that though if I'm going to take a huge hit (cost of painting + devalue). At that point, I'd only owe $20k on the car and it would look Totally different than when I bought it -- while still remaining an x6 of course.

What do you guys think?

I think the 259s are a really nice wheel and IMHO I would wrap the car before I painted it. Cause then you can get it back to stock with no devaluation

I thought of that, but I have absolutely no experience with it. How long does a wrap cost? Is it durable? Most of the ones that you see people showing off on forums are matte jobs. Can you get 'showroom shine' wraps?

Ok now you have to tell us what's this new car you're considering?

Agree on wrap vs. paint.

The value of a car after repainting is somewhat relative. If you sell to an individual, use a reputable body shop/painter (with warranty) and everything else is in great condition they may pay top dollar especially if they plan on keeping the vehicle long term. If it is a dealership or someone interested in reselling, then it may not be attractive. At the end of the day, it is unlikely you would be able to put any amount that you paid for the paint job on top of or to push the current value of the vehicle. All just my opinion.

Now if you will keep the car for a while, might as well re-spray it to your liking so that you can get the most out of the color change. Another option is wrapping it since it is relatively inexpensive and actually protects the current paint for the resale. Good luck either way.

A good wrap job cost as much as a good paint job. But on that note. Still get a wrap. Cause a good wrap job will look like a paint job and will last a few years. U won't get ur money back from a paint job nor does a wrap. But a paint job devalues the car if a different color. And removing a wrap doesn't.

And think of that pristine paintwork you will have under the wrap ready for the next owner. That may be worth a buck or two in the future.

You will have tremendous challenge reselling a repaint vs. factory paint and would significantly devalue the car.. Most purchasers of high end cars will not touch a repaint.. There are so many folks out there repairing and repainting damaged vehicles I think 90% of potential buyers would become skiddish when they discovered the car had been repainted.. whatever the reason.. Especially since its a Beemer.. We're not talking abou a 10 year old Toyota here...

Car is too new to be painted. Plus if you are changing the color, which I may have missed in your original post, it would be a PITA. Door jams, engine compartment, behind front fender, firewall etc....you dont want two different colors showing up or no one will buy it. Have it wrapped, get it nicked up and then have it removed......just get it out of your system

Get it wrapped.

We saw one like this in LA. Definitely a head turner.

If it is a color change, then it is going to hit your value. Doing a color change without stripping the body is nearly impossible to make look right.
