KWV3 noises

Anyone having any "popping" noises coming from their KW's during slow speed turns. Just had the KW's installed and my installer says this is normal on KW's. It's the coils unwinding on either the collar or top hat. Other than that the KW's are flawless but I just can't accept it. My installer said their may be a teflon sleeve you can install between the coil or top hat.

Anyone experience this or came up with a solution?

Hell ya!

It's called "spring bind / Coil Bind"...I called KW and complained to no avail.

I even have a video of it - it's the helper spring that is doing it.

The thoughts are if the spring tension is greater than the recommended spec that you may generate this.

I have had mine checked by 2 different companies and they both say my settings are within spec.

I may call again to complain - let me know how yours go - pm me if you want

I hate to say this but I'm glad I'm not the only one here to have this problem. I called KW this morning and they said exactly what you posted about spring binding because of hieght issues. I'll let you know what I find.

yes let me know. They said they would send me new helper springs but that pissed me off..don't wanna spend more $$$ troublshooting this.

I would rather them send me a new set of front springs + shocks -

So far no long term issues because of this.

Thats exactly the sound my KW's are making!!!! KW said to check all torque settings and ride height. I know my shop torqued to BMW spec. I"ll check the ride height tonight. My shop said there may be some aftermaket sleeves you could buy to place between the springs that may help with the noise. I'll let you know what they come up with.

Yes you can install these Teflon o-rings - forgot what they were called...

Torrington Bearings or Thrust Bearings

Hopefully more KW owners can chime in but so far only you and I have this issue !!

I must admit I may be lower than their recommended settings but not by much.

I believe we even raised them and the issue was still there

Bump because I'm having these issues too. Any news with fixing the problem or trying the teflon o-rings?

They end up failing...no issue to fix the "spring bind"
