Running Boards

I am asking for a friend. He has a 2012 x5 sport activity, and he wants to take the running boards off. Are they easy to come off, and what exactly is under there? Does he have to order stock regular black cladding? Thanks guys

What would you put on to replace the M version ones?

I'm interested as well, I want to replace with OEM running boards as my wife is 5'2 and has a hard time getting in.

ooops.
I was totally confused with roof rail with running board.
This is what happens when you drank too much during labor day weekend.
Sorry.

E70 running boards

I have a set of standard e70 black running boards(a.k.a rocker panel skirts), complete with installation hardware.

Willing to swap for a set of decent aluminum running boards.

Here are pics of the standard black panels:

I assume you take them off then have to order stock parts. And then it's direct bolt on?

What Pax showed is what's under there. It has the exterior board then under is a support skeleton. The support is different for running boards and the side skirts. My wife also hated the running boards her pant legs were always getting dirty. So I got the narrow side skirts it took a couple hours in my drive way to do the swap you need a hand to make life easier though. I made wife help out much to her dismay
