2011 x5M: rear Collison

All,

After not even a week of ownership of this car I was rear ended at about 40-50mph yesterday on a major interstate.

For starters, this car is incredible for safety measures. And we are very lucky considering the situation and speed the vehicle that collided with us.

The unfortunate part for my new to me vehicle is that there appears to be frame damage. I'm getting several errors with dynamic ride stability, 4x4 stability and there is a loss in engine power and throttle.

The car is at the dealer now to be examined tomorrow. There is definitely major damage to the crash beam and there is a part of te frame that is cracked. I state this because I saw the components compromised under the vehicle.

I was trying to find if this vehicle has seperate front and rear sub frames.

Any info is appreciated

.. why bother with all that? Your insurance company should replace your vehicle.

I would go for a full replacement. It won't be your insurance it should be the person that hit you so I would fight for a replacement your rates won't go up theirs will.

Don't even worry about going over all these scenarios in your head. Just work with your insurance company and work towards getting a new one.

Glad to hear you walked away from the accident, that's the most important thing. The X5M is not important.

Same thing just happened to me a month ago today. I was rear-ended on a highway by a Lexus GX470 going about 40-50mph. My X5 showed minimal exterior damage, yet required over $12,000 in repair. My insurance didn't budge or have an issue replacing with OEM parts, as it was the fault of the Lexus. My insurance will not go up, and I will receive a refund for deductible and any other out-of-pocket expenses due to the accident.

Most likely, your insurance company will opt to have your vehicle replaced and send the bill to the party responsible

Yeah so got the check in hand already from the other insurance which is great. Bad news is that it going to take a month at least from my shop which is an issue.

Trying to keep miles off the M3 and sure as hell don't want a POS rental to drive.

Car is being out back together! Good news is that I bought a Dinan exhaust and suspension and now the money from insurance can go towards that!!

Also bumper was scratched from previous owner so getting a new bumper and paint! Guess not a total loss and this worked to my advantage.

Glad to hear you're OK after such a major accident; the damage didn't end up being bad enough for your insurance company to just total it?

Insurance has to declare over 60% of the value of the car at that time to be in damages in order to total it . Awful I know. Wouldn't of minded a brand new one!
