Thinking of moving into a X5, few questions
Good evening all! I am currently a very happy owner of a 2010 E93 335 that I love to death and always have a blast driving. However it is becoming very difficult to come to terms with having a full size Siberian Husky that just doesnt seem fair to put him in the backseat and living in the city now I dont drive as much as I did before. I am strongly considering trading in or selling my 335 at the end of summer and moving into a X5.
I went and looked at a few today and was impressed with the space/quality of the interior. I had a few questions if anyone could give me their insight or thoughts on these it would be greatly appreciated. X35 or X50? I think the X50 is a bit out of my price range so I probably will go with the X35 optioned out. How does it drive? Is it a slug? Im sure at some point there will be some chipping options (COBB, JB?) that may help out. I like to have a fast vehicle if possible doesnt have to be a rocket just like to have the power available. Deals? Right now the financing rates at BMW seem to be at 3.79% Its been a awhile since I have been watching but when does BMW usually do lower sales rates like 1.9 or .9? Is is possible to get these at 500 over invoice (like the 3 series)? BMW Select? Any thoughts on this program. I plan on putting 7-10k down and probably will sell the vehicle in 3-5 years so not sure if that would negate worrying about the balloon payments which I am not sure how that really works? Any other thoughts on things I should look for or add? Thanks again for any response.

First off, going from an amazing car to the X5/X6 is a BIG change. Yes, they are AMAZING handling vehicles. But they are trucks - big 5,000LB trucks. I had a 335 loaner for two weeks and was amazed how big the X6 felt after those two weeks. So in a perfect world, keep the 335 as a fun car for the weekends and pick up the X5.
Second off, in speaking to my dealer recently, he said BMW is doing nothing in terms of incentives for July as such, they are expecting a very slow month. BMW is probably going to adjust the rates next month - so if you can hold out all the better. Note the 2012s have some really good deals on them now. Last but not least, the 35 with the 8 speed auto is just fine for the car. You can even get the M Sport package for another 15hp. Still, the V8 sounds amazing in this vehicle and the gas mileage is not too much worse. But the 6 cyl is just fine.

I am in no hurry to purchase anything. Can wait until fall for better deals.
Is the M sport package only an option on the Sport Activity model? Or can I get it on the Premium? I am having a hard time making the change but I think its best for me moving forward.

IMHO, since you don't drive much anymore, get the 35 optioned with a few things you want and call it a day. You probably won't miss the 335...definitely a tradeoff, but the x535 has plenty of "gittyup" for the city. And yeah, your dog will think much more of you as his owner

It looks that way (note the M sport package is only avail on the 2013s). Some here had complained about stone chips near the front of the rear wheels with the Sport Activity model. Note sure if BMW figured that one out yet.

I have a 335i, and just got 2012 X5 diesel for my wife. Thought of X5 35, but diesel price optioned similar with all incentives was way more attractive. Honestly, I so much prefer driving her X5 now in the city than 335i. X5 is a blast to drive, and diesel is so powerful for city needs. I plan to get JBD for it very soon too. When my lease on 335i is over in about 5 months, I'm thinking of taking X5 from my wife and get her something else.

It'll be a noticeable difference between your 335i and an X5 considering you opt for the 35i. I am too was having a blast with my tuned N54 in 335i coupe and got a diesel X5 instead of 35i. Now I regret every single day when I drive that clicking and clanking lazy truck even with JBD at max setting. In stock form it is painfully slow. Whatever you do do not opt for the diesel if you love the sound and performance of BMW gas engines! The MPG difference is barely noticeable between the D and the I and constantly regenerating DPF rubbing the truck of performance makes it even harder enjoing this motor. On the tuning side there much more pleasant options available for gas motor, like you said Cobb, JB, etc... Finally you can spec your 35i with adaptive drive and a factory power kit witch will reduce the noticeable gap in performance between you current coupe and an X5. The X5 is an awesome truck minus the diesel variant, that's why my next will be the 2015 X5M.

The M Performance Package (ZMX) adds 15 hp, you have to order the M Sport Package (ZMP) to order the M Performance package though.
