Together with the new gearbox fitted roundabout 1.5 years ago chances are good it
will last. Would love to see 500.000 km or, even better, 400.000 miles in it.

Mercedes gives out cool high mileage awards, wish BMW did.

Wrong thread...Sorry! Moved E36M3 pix to my build thread...

In keeping with this thread, I will be doing spark plugs and ignition coils shortly. As well as front brakes with F85 rotors and new splash shields...which by the way are now black when you order oem from the dealer. Had to wait three+ weeks for these to come in from Germany, FYI. I originally ordered them from a vendor, but after a couple weeks they came back to me and said I had to order from dealer, fwiw.

Old summer wheels became new winter wheels. New summer wheels coming soon!

And a much deserved bath.

I installed my F85 Rotors without switching these out, meaning you probably dont have to. Do you know what the difference is between the E70 M and F85 parts?

True, not required for F85 rotor replacement. Mine were a little banged up from careless wheel removal prior to my ownership. These pictured are E70 X5M parts. Surprisingly very light, I thought they were plastic, but are not. Just super thin.

Cleared out the OCC again. Only about three weeks since the time above. Approximately the same amount of fluid, but mostly water this time, with just a little oil sludge:

Picked up some parts on CL... got a better spare than my previous one, and some racks with keys and ski carrier. Pretty cool.

Beautiful day to be out and about in SoCal so went to check out the views from Point Vicente:

Got home and installed everything. I love that this has the wingnut bolt to secure it as well as the foam tray!

Installed the racks, and hope they're not too noisy. Wish it was a snowboard attachment and not skis, but can't complain!

What I didn't mention is that I broke the stupid handle lifting up the cover. The cover had some stuff on it and I was trying to put everything away too quickly and just. I pulled too hard and my mighty strength ripped it to shreds. Bought a cheap replacement that works mostly okay.

Have not used my e70 in 1-2 months now.
Eccentric shaft motor went bad so I replaced it.
But I need Ista to calibrate it.
The eccentric shaft had some slight discoloration where the gear of the motor rides it.
Some say it’s normal, it should be normal, right? Same as a starter motor gear that has discoloration where it rides on the flywheel.
Others say it’s not normal and the shaft also has to be replaced.
At $1.2k a shaft, I’m hoping it is normal and it recalibrates. No other related issues to fried DME so that’s a relief.
One of these days I’ll get Ista…

Seems as it’s taking a lot of $ to keep it running, but the way I see it, it made it to 100k, with all the new stuff I put on, should make it another 100k.

Went to instal a Wakka head unit and now i have no sound from my speakers

It uses a jumper harness which gets very bulky behind the CIC box (big steel box with cd player in it??)

I plugged everything in loose and tested worked great. They when i was trying to reinstall the cic unit i lost bluetooth/aux and eventually radio also. Everything functions on the screen and says its playing but no sound. Im assuming i kinked/stretched the fibre optic cable. Im wondering where the cable goes next from the cic unit??

I was able to get a hitch off of a very rare E70 at the pick a part yesterday.
E70s never show up, and on the E53s that they tend to have, only one has ever had a hitch!
I think it is a Curt class 3. No harness unfortunately.
The hitch along an E90 alarm system for $110 was a good haul!

It was a touch rough cosmetically so I cleaned it up and repainted it.

Disassembly was straightforward, but the bumper cover was a bit tougher to pop off than shown in the videos.

Incredibly easy reassembly though.

All buttoned up! Reflectors cracked pulling off, so they're just there for the picture.
Amazon replacements come in tomorrow along with the plastic rivets for the wheel trim.

I have been patiently trying to find the cargo floor strut at the pick a part, and one showed up today! I was able to get down there and get it for $14... pretty happy about this!

Previous arrangement (Which TBH worked fine in practice):

Now I'm bonafide:

Side note that I have a spare kit from same lot for sale: https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show...1#post30938281

Well I loaded up the mountain bike on Sunday and went to meet my buddies. Started the 50i Msport and the brake pedal went pretty far down toward the floor. This had happened a few times on my wife's e90 if you start/stop/start/stop the engine too quickly, and I had learned to press it down as hard as I could and it always fixed it. I read that model had some valve that often caused the car to act weird when starting stopping (automatic trans) and figured it had something to do with that.

I had no idea if the X5 had the same thing, I never felt the same symptoms in it. Anyway I pressed down hard, and it seemed to feel better immediately, but I think it was just like pumping the brakes because it didn't last. I couldn't find any leaks, and the brakes felt consistent and worked, just with the pedal down lower. I thought it had to be the vacuum booster.
Anyway I drove it to the biking park and back, about an hour total and it braked every time (again, just with the pedal down further). Made an appt for two days out and drove it to the dealer, and they diagnosed the master cylinder! AND didn't have one in stock (really?). Waited two days and picked it up today, all good and back to normal. This was at 80k miles btw.

Since they said it was a safety issue I got a pearl white i4 EV as a loaner, which I requested as I had a charger at home, for my wife's matching (blue) i4.

Looks like my beast has fallen in love with our shop - - found a ball bearing underneath it today, virtually " carried" it there.
Fingers crossed, perhaps it ist not a major issue and can bei fixed tomorrow.

Picked my beast up today, exchanged 620 Euro for a new drive shaft and a bearing block.

Of course, on my way home the service light went on.😅 Brake fluid, was on my list for April anyway.
