Bad fuel consumption

Hi Guys,

I bought pre-facelift new E70 3.0D, and i'm getting very bad fuel economy. I've already have driven it for 1000 miles, and i'm getting 15.6mpg combined. Not sure what is going on. Truth is that i drive it aggressively sometimes, but most of the time i drive it in gentle manner.

Is this normal for a new car? I would be grateful for any input on this matter.

NOT normal - probably low quality fuel. If it does not get better soon, take it to the dealer.

I was talking about combined consumption. 30% highway, 70% city. I went to my dealer. He said i need to drive it at least 3000 miles in order to reach car's 'real' consumption stats. Something about new motor, and time it needs to break in. Not sure if this is bs, because i know for the fact that process of breaking engine in is done directly in manufacturing process.

I average 23.7-24.0 driving about 60% city / 40% hwy and actually averaged more (24.5 mpg) in the first 3,000 miles (although more hwy)....I'm skeptical that there isn't something else going on unless you're driving with your e-brake on and foot to the floor

Is your mpg calc in the computer lining up with the # of miles you're getting per tank?

I average a true 23.7 mpg combined with 70% city/30% highway. On the highway at 70 mph I get at least 26 mpg; sometimes 30 mpg if I restrain myself and keep it to 65 mph.
