Adaptive Drive Option for 35d?

Sold my E60 M5 a couple months ago and now looking to get into something a little more practical for road trips. Decided that the diesel fits what I'm looking for so for the past month I've been on the search. I've read the adaptive drive option is the way to go but I have yet to see a diesel with this option and Ive looked at a lot of these online.

Does anyone know if this option is actually available for the diesel or is this just a super rare option?

AD is rare option regardless of diesel or gas. In diesels, a sports pkg is required.

Sport package is even rare on diesels it seems but I would agree with that statement. With the 35i and 50i it seems I can find the AD option pretty often, it's just crazy I haven't seen a single diesel with this option.

On pre lci 35ds you got adaptive drive with the sport package. For LCI models, its was a $3500 option, so good luck finding one with it.
Mine is one with AD

I have been shopping for a silver or white AD X5 for 6+ months now. My 10 year old son knows how to look for the button in the pictures or run the vin and read the report. Most I find are 2009s. I have only seen 20 or so 2010+ diesel with AD in nationwide searches over the past 6 months so they are not common. What year are you looking for? I search country wide and most are in LA or SF. Here are a couple:

Sport with AD

Non Sport with AD. Only seen 2 like this. Most have sport.

yes, it was avaiable. I rarely saw it during my hunt for my LCI X5d in January. My counsin bought a CPO 2011 X5d LCI with AD in March, so it's out there. And he got a killer deal too.

My only experience with AD is sitting in my cousin's X5 is there is better compression and rebound of the springs when the car drives over bumps. In fact, as a passenger I can tell whether he had the setting on or not, and I even did a blind test. Of course my cousin can't tell as a driver, so go figure, AD is wasted on him.

AFAIK, there is no on/off option for AD per se. On cars with AD, it is always on. The sport button controls the sport mode for AD, where the steering feels heaver, and the vehicle feels more grounded to the road.

(I could be wrong though..)

I'm new to this group... planning to buy 2012 X5 D... what do you think about this car ...http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/5087925229.html

Do I need to do a pre-purchase inspection ? Since its less than 4 years and less than 50K mileage.

Thanks

mileage is attractive, but it's minimum options.

The other thing that looks odd is, his tow hitch install's cut bumper seems off centered

Thanks guys for the links. I actually just saw that white one while searching last night. Finding a well optioned 35d in my color preferences is hard enough so I've been debating whether AD is worth it if I plan to do a small drop anyways.

I just missed out on a 12 35d with 60k and 1-owner for $25.5 so I'm back in the grind. Frankly I know the deals are out there so I'm shooting for around $30k budget.

I'm not sure I'll ever find this combo at least not soon:
- 2011-2012
- Sapphire Black, Vermillion Red, or Platinum Grey
- Oyster Color Leather
- Sport Package
- Technology Package
- MultiContoured seats (heated and ventilated
- Massaging Seats
- Adaptive Drive

The only hitch setup I'm aware of where the rear bumper is cut is the OEM setup, and yes the cut is off center. Cutting the bumper is bad enough, but the fact it's not even centered…not a desirable hitch option…IMO.

Better pic -

Seems a bit high to me, though I don't follow the diesel's too closely so other's would probably have better input. Mileage is low and the diesel, at least new, was more $ than the 35i, so maybe it's about right? Has a few essential packages but nothing else - no Tech or Premium Sound packages for starters, and those are fairly common.

Ventilated & massaging seats are part of the same package - the Active Ventilated Seat package, and those would also include the Multi-contour feature. Multi-contour seats were a stand alone option and not that hard to find, but the full Active Ventilated Seat package is not very common, and neither is Adaptive Drive. I would also say Vermillion Red is one of the least common colors along with Deep Sea Blue Metallic. And Oyster is also not common, I'd say only Tobacco is harder to fine.

Not saying that X doesn't exist but it's gonna be a needle in a haystack! If you don't need one soon, that's part of the fun…the hunt. At least it was for me.

Good luck

Edit - just checked BMWUSA.com - currently there's just 20 Vermillion & Platinum 2011-2013 X35d's over Oyster leather - not a single one in Black Sapphire (there was 1 in Jet Black). Of those 20, maybe half had the Sport Package and of those, not a single one had either Ventilated Seats or AD. I didn't check the non Sport models. Maybe opening up other interior options, or eliminating AD…if those are options, would definitely speed up the search.

Correct, I knew that owner had a OEM install. What's odd is, the cut on his bumper vs the picture in yours are offset differently. Yours show more bumper on the left side, whereas his show more on the right side. Regardless, a cut bumper looks odd. I've seen a few OEM cut bumpers where it looks perfect.

IMO, you can find a 2011 2012 X5d easily in the low $30ks today. However, if you're set on specific color combos...it might be harder to match that up with certain options. I would say, go for the one that has the options that are high on your list first and be open to the ones that are less of a big deal for you. You may be on a snipe hunt, the specific combo you're looking for might consist of only 5-10 in the entire country and none of them are for sale.

For example, I too had a bunch of wants, but I learned if you search by your #1 priority item first, it's easier to narrow down the search, I started searching cars with these features in order of priority:

1. 2011 LCI or 2012 X5 diesel
2. 3rd row
3. Under $40k
4. CPO
5. west of the Rockies
6. 20 inch wheels
7. sports activity
8. Bronze
9. Nappa leather
10. Cold weather
11. side cameras
12. tow package installed

I found out that just by filtering #1 and #2 alone already narrowed my choices done to maybe only 8 cars in the entire country at any given week. Taking into account #1 through #8 in my case, further narrowed my choices down to maybe 2-3 cars in the country...and then it's sort of picking and choosing what'll be acceptable once you find something that fits most of your criteria.

At the end of the day, I found this gem in San Diego for under $40k:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1081562

Of course 2 months later, my counsin spent just 1 week and found 90% of what I wanted just 30 minutes away, for cheaper go figure.

not sure...should I pass this due to hitch setup ? .... for this mileage I thought its good deal with Premium, cold and sports package... or should I wait ?

by no means would this bumper cut issue prevent me from buying an otherwise perfect car. Personally, I think that car is farily spartan in terms of options, so it's not "perfect" to me, but may be to you.

His picture is really small and dark, you should ask him for a close up shot of the rear bumper. It looks like the installer tried to balance the cut and cut a bit more on the other side, but it left a bigger opening than needed down the middle for the hitch and plugs. Upon closer review, it looks pretty even, just too much gap down the middle.

The hitch is fine. The installer centered the bumper cut out on both the hitch and wiring rather than just the hitch. Image search to see what most look like.
