I have email

I have had my X5M for over a year now and was only ever able to receive text messages on the display. Today I see the symbol which appears that I have a text to read and when I go to look all my emails are there as well. This must have happened after the last trip to my mechanic. He said he had updated the computer to the latest version and turned on a few functions for me. I had given up ever seeing emails as I had tried everything before.

I am more old school as I still do most of my communicating via email. This is much more useful to me. For any of you guys that wanted this function try updating your system.

Yes, you can have the system read out the email or text to you as well. You can't reply as that would not be very safe and I am sure people would try to do it while driving.

I don't use this feature often but if I'm stopped at a light it makes it convenient to check for messages.

Do you have any clear information as to how it works? does the phone need to be plugged into the car a certain way or does it work via Bluetooth?

I honestly can't tell you the settings as it has been so long since I originally set mine up. I believe I read through some threads on this forum but was never able to get emails until now.

I have a 2013, am using a Samsung Galaxy S5 via bluetooth. I will have to look up my version of Idrive software.

I have a Blackberry Classic and both the 2011 (I used to have) and the 2013 e70 (I have presently) provide all of my emails as well by simply activating the office feature. No coding needed.

In fact whenever I rent a BMW at AVIS I'm able to activate this feature in any of their cars. Plus I get a BMW status email (like an update each day) just on the car that tells me how many unread emails I have, what meetings I have on my calendar and any action items that I have.

It worked for me on the Office function when I had my classic Blackberry, but doesn't work with my iPhone 5S.

When I had my X5M in for coilovers and a tune they also updated the Idrive and did some coding for me to add some functions. I found out today that he did the bmw office app coding to enable the emails preview. Why BMW doesn't enable this from the factory baffles me because they state that the X5 has this feature.

If you know someone who does coding they should be able to enable this for you. ECUProgram in Calgary coded mine.

I can only speak for the iPhone as that is what I have and unfortunately it doesn't support emails but does text messages. You need to confirm that under your Bluetooth connection settings on your iPhone the "Show Notifications" is turned on as well.

I had both an iphone and android and both only received text messages until recently when ecuprogram enabled the BMW office email function.

First of all, get the latest update (latest version UPD01008) as specified here
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-database.html

from http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html

Next, you have to go to options to activate the office function. It should work. It works in Canada with a BBM.

Interesting. Will getting this firmware update necessitate me going back to get the truck re-coded? I note that it says that there is updated GraceNote album display. In newer BMWs and my CTS, when I stream from Sirius or Pandora it shows the titles whereas in my X5 it simply says information unavailable while streaming the sound crisply. Wonder if the update will allow the same functionality as a 2015 528i?

It doesn't affect coding at all. As for Gracenote, our version is for ripping cd only.
