playing movies via ipod??

i finally got my 2012 x5 50i (will post pics and details soon..) and thought i could play movies from my ipod touch 4th gen which does play full length movies on its own.

obviously i can play DVD movies on the idrive screen via the front dvd loader but why can't it detect movies loaded on my ipod?

am i doing something wrong or is this not possible?


i can browse through playlists, genres, artists, etc... but no movie listings...

Do u have the media cradle snap in? You can't do it without it.

I am not sure if the iPod Touch works the same as iPhone. You need the iphone Dock from BMW in order to play movies. You can do nearly everything else using the standard Apple white cable, but no movies.

Do a search on these forums and you will see many threads.

so you're saying only the iphone can play movies outside of inserting a dvd?

i have no problems ordering the dock (if available as a day 2 purchase)

but only the iphone and not an ipod?

Only the dock has the capability of relaying video signals. It has to be the media cradle though.
I'm not sure if there is a difference between iPod / iPhone.
No way to play video though through the apple cable.

the dock will play video for a couple seconds, then switch to a blank screen that says 'itunes' sometimes...i did the Zong mod, but that seems to only allow dvds wile driving...anyone have any luck getting youtube videos/ipod movies/rentals playing through the screen?
