Any one compare aftermarket Down pipes?
I'm looking at getting some aftermarket downpipes for my x5m.
I have the Velos stage 2 tune and removing the stock downpipe cat restrictions would help a ton. There is also another option to just gut them.... |

I have a thread on my Polish downpipes which are working out well. Gutted cars generally causes turbulence, and at times unwanted noise issues. At least that is what many claim, I have not gutted cats myself as I want the air to exit in one direction. And in CA, best to have the cats for inspection time.

While it may not be exactly the info you are looking for, I can say with confidence I made a huge mistake on my first X5M when I bought Racing Dynamics down pipes. Cheap? Yes. Functional once installed? Yes. ...but lots and lots of hassle to make it fit and accept the O2 sensors. The phrase "cluster f#$k" comes to mind.

I’ve been eyeing the ultimate racing catted down pipes. I’ll plan on order a set on Monday so I can have them when I replace my power steering pump, valve cover gaskets and coils at my dealership on the 11th. I’ll post a YouTube clip when I get them on. Might try to do a before and after too.

I've got VRSF catless DPs (Velos Stg 2 and Fabspeed exhaust) Sounds mean as piss! And turbo spool is very noticeable...some think I'm a diesel...lol.
Unfortunately, I can't pass inspection with them on. So I will be removing them Tried the Fabspeed catted spacers to no avail. Def I great improvement with them on |

I gutted mine a few years ago and they worked out great. Eventually I came across a set of used aftermarket ones, took a bit longer to install them but overall they also worked out great. I can honestly say the difference between the two was minimal at best...but placebo makes me feel better about them.

Active Autowerke have been working out well so far for me since installing them about 7k miles ago. No complaints. Wrapped the downpipes and did the PTP Turbo Blanket and under hood temps are noticeably better.
