Dinan Engine software boost upgrade

I confirmed with Dinan that the Engine software boost upgrade for the 2011 is now available. It was previously released as was the BMW version for the 2010. but I did confirm it can be applied to 2011 as well. adds 95hp plus brings torque up to 573 lbs.foot. warranty is still applicable thru BMW when it is installed a dinan BMW authorized dealer. list is $2999
anyone have any experience or thoughts

Unless there has been a big change, Dinan matches BMW warranty with their own.
BMW does not authorize Dinan dealerships, modding voids BMW warranty.

If you are going to do this Dinan are the only folks to go with and only one that I know of that offers a warranty to match BMW's.

That is correct. So if something goes wrong and you're not near a Dinan BMW dealer, you're screwed.

Update on Dinan Engine software boost...

I installed the perf aero kit and when fog lights are removed some additional software programing is performed and vehicle ecu is updated with new software. Afterward this update the dinan would not install to the ECU. Dinan says they are now aware of this and are revising. I did notice that after BMW software is updated there are few noticeable graphical changes, ie: phone icons to end call, etc... very minor. nothing was changed in how ipod or hardrive is interfaced.

scottjays..had the Dinan software installed Friday...a big difference...power..response and I had the 7RR as well as other subtle improvements....kinda like a JB3 on a 335 improvement (former ride). Also had the exhaust installed hard to tell the power difference as it was installed at the same time, but sure sounds nice without being overbearing.

I read your prev thread, the software sounds fun! As I said, I tried to install the Dinan software but would not install. Hopefully they will address this and I will join you in software boost.

They always do. Since the only way you are going to tell a difference is by driving agressively and doing so burns more gas.

If you just drive normal, than no. But why buy the product then?

agree if gas mileage was issue I wouldn't be driving 50i and doing performance upgrade.

I think I got 75 miles out of a half a tank the other day... I guess that is why I decided to stay home today and do some work around the house.

I'm sure the work around the house will require some errands .

Actually it looks like AA is adverstising more than Dinan for the X5M. AA 86hp/117 lbft vs. Dinan 56hp/74 lb/ft . Does your friend drive an M version as well?

I know you can get more power then the Dinan tune, but there are weak links in the drive train and if you over do it they will break. If I mod, I will go Dinan just for piece of mind......Gee Wiz, it's not like the M is slow to begin with......Steve

There are lots of tuners out there that will give you more horsepower but as far as I know Dinan is the only one that backs his tunes with a warranty. Without a warranty and loads of horsepower what are you going to do when the rear axle breaks, Dinan tunes BMWs to perform with reliability.

I just got my Dinan software and you guys are right, it is easy and the car is a beast . For some mysterious reason, this beast is alway trying to throw me to the back of the car.
I went with Dinan because I spent a lot on this car, If anything happens, I want to be protected.

I would like you Dinan Software guys to run your trucks and see how it does.

I saw an Renntech X5m and it was a total dud.
Dinan claims alot, but I have never been impressed by their results

I have an ESS tune and while the dyno was ultra conservative, my truck is fast as hell
Big numbers and dyno graphs might sell the product. But the proof is in the performance. The dyno graph can show 1000 whp, but if the truck runs only slightly faster, then what good is a big claimed number??

New forum member. I had the Dinan stage 1 tune put into my X6 50i and then waited a couple of weeks to have it dyno'd. It was done at a local COBB shop on their Mustang AWD dyno. Here are the results.

You can definitely feel the truck pulling harder, especially in 3rd gear. Here's the full dyno sheet for those interested.

I can understand your frustration with the service at certain dealerships. I'm actually dealing with one right now in their attempt to get the Dinan exhaust installed, long story for some other time. However I would suggest if you are really interested in the tune to contact Dinan directly (1-800) and ask them if/where there are other authorized Dinan facilities that could assist you. Here locally there are a couple of non-dealership repair facilities that are authorized Dinan shops.
