Rattle sound in my X5

Hello everyone
This is my first post here
I have a 2010 X5 4.8 and I live in Egypt
And as some of you may know the roads here aren't perfect
Because of that and the hard ride of the 20" I am suffering from an annoying rattle sound couming from the back side if the car and I can't determine from where exactly
The sound mainly appear when the rear axle is not even (on wheel is higher than the other)
I have paid many visits to the agency here with no apparent source for the sound
Did anyone suffer from a similar problem and what r ur suggestions

But the sound is more metal based rather than plastic rubbing
The agency went so far that they removed the whole trunk upholstery and reinstalled it but with no result

Is the sound more of a one-time click when weight of the vehicle shifts?
In my 35d, I hear this "metal on metal" click when taking a sharp turn at slow speed. Also happens when one wheel goes over speed bump.

exactly this sound like it
but since the roads here are not paved well i hear the sound several times which become annoying
is it normal though ???

Try the D latch that your tailgate locks into. I searched for ages and I found this to be loose. I still need to take it to the dealer for tightening but after managing to secure it temporarily the annoying rattle disappeared.

The D latch is the metal bit that protrudes from the lower section of the tailgate (top section latches on to the bottom). I hope this helps.

thanks guys for the response but i don't think this the issue
The sound is exactly as serge 1 described
i think it is something in the suspension but the agency confirms that noting wrong with them
and the mystery sound still exist

horas I had the same sound when making a low turn speed as well. I suspect on my car it was the D metal tapping against the lock. If you have checked it and it is solid then so be it.

I thought there was something wrong with my suspension too and received the same response from the dealer.

The other thing you could check is the metal D that the back seat locks into place as well. Try some electrical tape on that.

You spoke in past tense. Does it mean you solved it?
Is D-metal = metal on D pillar?

I believe the official term for the "D" I am refering to is a door striker. The one that is giving me problems is the striker attached to the bottom section of the split tailgate. My fix involved forcing whatever could fit (paper,tape) in between the striker and back plate to stop the striker from moving up and down. I will need to go to the dealer to get them to tighten up the striker for a permanent fix (access is via the plastic cover on the inside of the lower tailgate). Simultaneously I wrapped electrical tape around the striker that the back seat (middle row) latch locks into. I should have done my tests one at a time but this was a long frustrating road. I am laying the blame however on the split tailgate striker as that is the only one that moves and strikers are meant to be secure. Plus when I do manage to keep it secure the noise goes away [this took me almost two years to find]

Thanks much. I will check tonight to see if the clicking goes away. If yes, I will force them to tighten it. I have to make an appointment anyways, because the cover that goes over tailgate gap got its hinges broken. The hinges are freaking plastic - how ridiculous is that.

Not sure it's the same issue.
I have an ocasional clunk during weight sift, while RU's problem is rattle on bumps.
I also tried to pull the D-latch and it doesn't move.

Took off the plastic trim from the upper part of the tailgate and drove. Still heard the clunk ocasionally. It's something else..

^^ Just an update for above. The clunk was fixed by realigning lower tailgate (horizontally and vertically) and wrapping some tape around D-shaped latch on lower tailgate.

Interesting, as I have a similar noise when the vehicles flexes. For example, when I turn into my local gym, there is a steep but short hill the vehicle needs to climb at a 45 degree angle (not the steepness of the hill, but rather the angle of entry). When the vehicles flexes like that, I hear a similar metal "pop".

Where is the pop sound coming from? Some people reported bad welds in various pillars - you may want to make sure that's not a case.

In my case, the sound was specifically coming from tail gate. I was so annoyed that went as far as riding in the trunk like a dog, while my wife drove over bumps

I've been down that road too
