OEM style 215 wheels on my X5d. Am I crazy?

Hi everyone,

I have an opportunity to buy BMW OEM style 215 wheels for a great price. The tires have about 5000km on them. I'm not sure how long they are good for, but assume, the way my wife drives, that they shoudl be good for a while yet.
My major concerns are the price of the tires to replace (+/-$675 each to replace), the fact that there are virtually no options of tire except for Dunlop RFT's, the ride quality, and the risk of tire and rim damage on Montreal roads.
BUT....... damn, they are beautiful, and would look great on our incoming X5. Any thoughts? Can anyone please convince me that it would be a good idea to get these?
Thanks!

Not at all.....buy them! Ride is great and if you like the 215's you might not be happy with anything else. Don't pay much more the 4 grand installed though......they can be found in this price range.

Also keep in mind if your X5d doesn't have the sport package or wider fender arches those wheels will stick out and look funny. I have the opposite problem - bought a winter setup in the OEM 19" (can't remember what style) and they look funny because they are so inset with the big fender arches.

Are you sure you're looking at the correct size?

215s look nice, but as OP mentioned, lack of selection and $$$ for tires make them sort of a one-time deal. I guess it also explains why used wheel sets are so cheap.

Tire size - the 21" OEM set are 285/35/21 front, 325/30/21 rear, $679 and $689 respectively on Tire Rack. The X5 must be the only vehicle this set is made for. I found that they were both hard to find (limited stock) and very pricey. They are made in Germany so I also had to pay 7% duty to the feds.

Agree on the sport fender arches are a must have for this tire size. And yes, the wheels themselves should be bought seperately used for around $500 - $600 if you don't want to break the bank with mounted rubber. I think the wheels are close to $3 k new.

I only run them 7 months a year, then run the 20" Y spokes with Scorpion ice and snow in winter. I won't replace this rubber in the time I have this SAV, but might pick a new set for another vehicle down the road.
