Diesel Fuel Filler is BLOCKED.. What to do??

I will assume this the device to prevent mis fueling. I was trying to refuel, WITH DIESEL and the nozzle would not go in. Looked in and saw the brass plate blocking the pipe..

What can I do to get it unblocked? I tried to push it, and felt for a release.. but no luck.. Diesel will go in around, BUT I have to fill slowly...

Step one : verify you have the correct diesel pump
Step 2: Rotate the nozzle up to 90° is either direction while trying to insert nozzle.
Step 3: find a station with the correct size nozzle or use the Bmw diesel fill adapter.

I think I found the answer..

THANKS!

Will find another diesel station, Although this is a station and pump I have used many times... maybe they changed the size of the nozzles.

Will also try to use the plastic adaptor that BMW supplies for the large "truck" diesel pump nozzles..

""BMW has equipped their diesel powered vehicles with an "Incorrect Fuel Protection System" to try and prevent gasoline from accidentally being filled in the diesel tank. They do this by making a double locking filler inlet, so that the inlet can only be opened by a 24mm diesel pump nozzle.

In Europe they have standardized pump nozzles. The gasoline nozzles are 21mm in diameter and the diesel nozzles are 24mm in diameter. Here in the United States however, Pump nozzles have not yet been standardized, therefore diesel pump nozzles can be 21mm, 24mm, or even larger size for trucks.

Most likely you used a gas station that had 21mm diesel pump nozzles, so it was not able to open the filler inlet. BMW did however leave narrow openings in the filler inlet for just this problem, or if you needed to refuel using a spare fuel can. You should still be able to use the smaller nozzle. You just have to fill the tank at a slower rate than normal, and the nozzle will not be locked into the filler neck so it wont seem as secured.

You can try a different gas station too in order to see if they have a different size pump nozzles."

I assume you're not an original owner, because every new owner of 3.5d upon delivery was given - free (! - courtesy of BMW NA),- a special fueling kit consisting of a plastic adapter and a pair of rubber gloves to deal with situations just like yours. I'm yet to meet a person who actually used it, but I'm sure they exist...

Cliff notes: find another pump.

I had the same issue. I had to rotate nozzles 90 deg to 180 deg to fuel. I went to the dealership 3 times, before I took the Service Manager to a ride with me, asked him to choose any 4 gas stations his choice and we saw we failed 4/4. After that he came back, and replace my upper tube that goes from the filler tube to the gas tank (they had to empty the tank and remove the tank) to replace it.

There is an electronic switch at the entrance and it is very sensitive to size of the nozzle.

If not buy the adapter that comes with every new car, and use that ... but risk is adpater will open the opening, and someone can fuel the wrong fuel type.

Hope that helps ...

I always have to rotate the nozzle 90-180 degrees to be able to put fuel in mine! Freaked me out the first time it happened too!

I was adding an 1oz additive today and was not sure it went to the tank around the blocker.

Can someone confirm it really sneaked to the tank and not somewhere else?

It went in the tank.

Bmw sells a plastic funnel that will release the misfueling latch/protection.

You can find on eBay, amazon or the dealer.

Ive had this happen to me where certain gas station pump nozzles just don't fit. Luckily the station right down the road has an adequate one.
