X6 3 seat rear bench review
I picked up my 2012 X6 with a 3 seat rear bench on Friday. Here's my observations and opinion of the 3 seat rear bench:
The two outside positions are still sculpted much like the originals and pretty comfortable. The center position however, is high and uncomfortable. I'm 5'4" and my head grazes the headliner because the seat goes up and the headliner goes down in the middle. The cup holders in the center console are replaced with 'opening' cup holders in the fold-down arm rest similar to those in an X5. My conclusion is: its functional for occasional 'not so tall' passengers for short trips or child seats. I think that anyone expected to sit in the center for an extended period of time would be unhappy. For me it does the job because my son and I are the only two in the car 95% of the time. I just wanted to be able to carry two more kids in the back every so often. BTW: my son wanted the 4-seat default with the awesome console for Legos and refreshing beverages, but I vetoed that because I thought it would be rude to make one of my sister's kids walk or ride in the back . |

I'm a soon to be x6 owner and had a quick question for those that have purchased a 2012 with the 3 seat option. Are the headrests adjustable or removable? Or are they fixed like the 2 seat option? Tks!

One more thing
Have the 3 person rear seat and VERY thankful I do - have had three people back there more than once. Yes, it certainly helps if they are skinny, but they do fit.
However, with the windows down in the car and nobody in the back seat, the middle position seatbelt flaps in the wind smacking the rear seat. That's annoying.

In both my e53 and e70, I removed the center headrest to increase rear visibility. I saw online photos of the x6 rear bench and could see that it was probably not adjustable or removable and I was bummed because the rear visibility is already sucky. Well -- since the rear window fills only about 2/3 - 3/4 of the rear view mirror, that headrest doesn't encroach into the 'window-zone' of the mirror in any way whatsoever. It's affect on car seats though, I don't know since I haven't used one in my x6. |
