Calling all X5 diesel owners-post your MPG please
My wife and I are in the market for a new X5. We are either going to get the 3.0 gas or diesel. Just wondering what gas mileage everyone is getting with the diesel? Thanks in advance!

I have had my X5 35d for almost two weeks and about 600 miles - so these numbers are preliminary at best. The highway (one short trip of about 220 miles) yielded about 28 mpg at an average 70-75 mph. Around town is hard to say but combined driving to date, which includes the aforementioned highway trip, is showing 23.5 mpg. I am excited about these results knowing that the motor is not even broken in yet.

Just picked-up a 3.0 a few weeks back and MPG is quite heavy, 16mpg and theres not much sprinting going on.
The diesel, if you can get your hands on one, is definitely the way to go. |

We just placed our order tonight for a '10 X5 35d. Test drove it again tonight and are impressed with the power and quickness. It was a fairly base model that we drove and we were happy. We already have an '09 ML320 Bluetec that gets 30-32 mpg on the highway. We've averaged 25 mpg combined since we got it. I'm speculating, but I'll guess the X5 will get slightly worse mpg because of the fact that it's so much more powerful. Worth the trade off though for a few mpg.

I think your mpg assessment between the two is accurate and yes, the X5 is quick for a 5,400+ lb. car. Couldn't be happier though considering its driving traits, safety, features, versatility, etc. I am actually thinking that the $62k sticker price is alomost worth it - I know that sounds crazy and I did pay about $8,500 less than sticker.

We have had our xdrive 30d m sport for nearly 2 weeks now and a 2hr motorway stint at 80mph saw 30mpg, a bit dissapointing seeing as though our old e53 3.0d sport would see 34mpg on the same type of drive. At a steady 55-60mph I saw 34mpg but when you start truddling around town that soon dropped to 22mpg.
just remember that I am in UK so I think our Gallons are different volume to USA. Hope this helps. |

I have not. My wife wants to wait for another month and the dealer doesn't have one to test drive. My CA told me that as long as you take delivery before february '10 the ecocredit is still valid. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
