Anyone wanna help my Moms out? (NJ)

My mom lives in Jersey (as do I) and wants to order a 2010 X5. Only problem is, she thinks she wants to get the diesel engine but we can't find a single one to test drive.

Is there anyone local (we're in the Somerset County Area) that wouldn't mind letting my little 'ol moms test drive the engine. She's ready to order the car but refuses to spend $50k on a car she can't test drive.

p.s. She's a big BMW fan, her "baby" is a 1995 325i with 24,000 miles on it. She treats the thing like a ferrari. If you wanna check it out, she'll even bring it to test drive yours.

FWIW, I rode in my dealership's shuttle which was an X5 35d. The torque is tremendous, possibly better than my 4.8i. It is typically noisier in the cockpit as it should be for a diesel but it's really not annoying. The fuel consumption is half my 4.8i.

As for the handling, it's pretty much the same as the 3.0i and the 4.8i. If I had to buy one today I would definitely buy the 35d.

Good luck to your mom.

I heard that the dealer in Darien, CT has an '09 demo in diesel.

I drove a 35d and it felt light years better than the 3.0i and was a bit better than the 4.8i. Maybe it's a weight issue but the suspension felt better on the 35d as well. More planted and less floaty on the Autobahn. Patrice is is right, it is noisier than the 4.8i and 3.0i but as soon as you turn the radio on or have a conversation you won't hear it. I've begun to think about one more and more instead of an M3.
