Cool '09 35d Space Gray + arches + F14 Bronze Burst + painted trim

Lame setting but I just returned from the body shop and couldn't resist posting pics of the painted trim. I absolutely hated the black trim, and now I think I like this more than the facelift.

Wheel/Tire specs are very close to OEM 20":

Staggered Forgestar F14 in Bronze Burst:

F: 20x9.5 +32 -- 275/40
R: 20x11 +35 -- 315/35

Looks awesome, how much did they charge you for paint the front, rear bumper and fender flares?

The running boards were done too. $1445 but their credit card machine was down so he dropped it to $1370 cash. A steal!

Are they 20's or 22's? What offsets are you using? Tire sizes?

That looks great, but why didn't you paint the door strips as well? Also, are you going to use paint protectant over the flares so they don't get chipped?

Because it would have cost $300 extra. I'll get a can from paintscratch.com eventually but I don't mind the strips. Can you recommend a protectant?

That's actually not bad.. My local BMW certified body shop quote $2000 for paint front and rear bumpers only...I'm hesitating, painted bumpers look much much better on a pre LCI X5

Looks awesome. I've been considering those wheels for my
Silver x5m. What concavity do you get front and rear?

Looks great!

Question: Did they sand it smooth or can you still see a little bit of texture on the painted parts - bumper, fenders etc...

I'm looking to get this done as well and I've been told that there will still be some texture in the paint, just not sure how bad it would be.

Good question. They were NOT sanded first -- it would have added $1000. Yet it is a perfectly smooth and mirror finish. He told me that after the first clear coat, the plastic "absorbed" it or something so they sanded it (the clear coat) and coated it again. Whether this specific procedure is what made it smooth or not, I do not know. But I wasn't charged for the second coat. I think I got really lucky on this.

Thanks for the info!

Every shop I go to takes one look at it and says "oh, I don't know about this texture..."

They said that the paint will not be exactly the same as the rest of the car.

I have an extra fender flare that I will tell the shop to test on once I decide which shop to go with.

Very nice...

If you don't mind, how much was the paint job. I'm looking into doing the same.

Definitely a big improvement mate. Looking forward to seeing how well the paint holds up on the plastic trims. I assume you bought the M Sport fender flares and got those painted as opposed to the plastic fender flares found on the regular Sport models, right?

Also, I'd suggest the M Sport rear bumper as it would flow better with your rear fender flares.

Painted trim and black wheels give the truck a much deserved makeover. Looks much more updated now.
Great job.
