Lesson learned... but it was damned fun!!!
So I was driving on I-75 northbound in the middle of nowhere with no traffic at all in my 2010 X6M. I was minding my own business and going 79 MPH in the right lane when suddenly a white Audi S8 screamed past me doing way more than 100. Three men in business suits having a ball, picked a fight.
"Oh, hell no!!" said the little voice in my head as I hit the ///M button and my right foot reflexively mashed the accelerator. The Audi had little chance of getting away, so it didn't. At all. Nope. The Audi stayed in the left land and I stayed in the right lane, back about 150 yards putting the cruise control at (allegedly) 110 MPH. A rather easy jog for the 2010 X6M with 114,000 miles. We did this for 10-15 miles as I monitored my favorite app (Waze... Great for cops, I thought) when the Audi slowed down to about 90 and got a few lengths away from me, still in the left lane. The Audi crouched down and took off really hot. This time I paused a few seconds as the Audi got close to a mile away and I hit the gas and held it down. The HUD showed 135 MPH (allegedly) as I came around a bend and was within 200 or so yards when I saw a cop 1/2 mile in front of his car and I absolutely nailed the brakes and slowed back to 79 with a full adrenaline dump in my body and something else in my pants. The Audi immediately pulled over as the cop left the hiding place, even before the lights on the top of the vehicle were on. I kept going, found the next exit as fast as possible and got the hell out of Dodge by taking back roads to my destination. That guy probably spent the night in Jail and I spent the night thinking about how I should have been there too. It was really really stupid, but I absolutely had a ball. Did I learn my lesson? Hmmmm... I was a remedial student. But a reckless driving conviction is a bad one to have on a resume. Has anyone had any close calls, or gotten nailed for some stupid driving like this? I feel very lucky. J |

Yes, and it's bound to happen again. Got clocked at 145 and was virtually let go. The 1st cop couldn't catch me or just didn't try so he radioed ahead. I saw the opposite direction cop a couple miles out on a straight away. I was in no mans land in Utah. As luck was with me, I pulled up behind the only other traffic which was an old pick up truck with stuff piled up to about 12' high. The cop missed me as I was tucked in behind that truck. Took another hour as a result for the next cop to ambush me as I foolishly kept up my speed. As a result of only getting a ticket for 15mph over the limit, I feel like I still don't have to be too careful. My time is coming and overdue but I can't stop the occasional bursts or especially an invitation like you got from a fellow driver.

I haven't been tagged yet but I think the temptation is there for anyone that drives these cars. I have had a close call where my countermeasures went off (radar, laser) and was able to get back down to 85 from 130. Most of the traffic was traveling close to that ( Arizona) so I was only a little out in front of them , cop came on followed for a while (by then I was doing PSL) then turned off.
If I get open road again will I do it again, ya just too tempting.

Great story! Here's my contribution,
Years ago I had an Audi allroad. One weekend, a couple friends and I were in Lake Tahoe and decided to drive to Reno. We got our asses handed to us in the casinos and my buddies got drunk. So broke and pissed off that I was the designated driver, and wanting to see what the allroad could do, I opened it up on an empty straightway around 6 AM on a Sunday morning with no one else on the road. No one except the local police hidden and waiting for idiots like me. I actually pulled over myself when I saw the red and blue lights waaaay in the distance. Officer claimed he tagged me at 81 in a 55, but then wrote on the ticket that he "COULD NOT OVERTAKE AT 135." That's probably about right, as the last time I looked at the speedo it was 120. So despite the lecture, actually a nice guy for not sending me to jail. Of course, my buddies were passed out through the whole thing. In hindsight, I wonder if I should have just continued on my way instead of slowing. It's probable if I didn't slow down myself, no way he'd catch me before I was well beyond his jurisdiction, although maybe he would have radioed ahead to someone...less forgiving. |

Whoa close call! Feel bad for the Audi driver though haha.
At least everyone came out safe.. which is a much bigger risk (than a ticket) when having a bit of fun on the HWYs

When hurricane sandy was headed for the Jersey Shore. I had to go the beach and help my mother in law move furniture out her yard. Got on the GSP heading south was one of the only cars going that way with bumper to bumper traffic getting away from shore. I had a clear road, barely possible in NJ. Took my 2006 M5 up to 145 all the way. Shit my pants passed 2 troopers stopped on the north bound shoulder. Dont think they even thought twice about, but the rest of the trip I was puckered up pretty good.
