Fog Lights

I'm planning of changing my fog lights bulbs and I'm not really sure what's the best option
Any ideas, pics would be nice

LEDs will not work better. They will look whiter but will not put out the light that a halogen bulb will. Do some research. You will find what you are looking for.

i have tried LED bulbs, it looks great but it was flickering... so no LED doesnt work unless u get coded... I tried HID and it was great but the FOG light housing was getting really hot and i thiknk it was almost melting..so I am back to stock..... i was running 6000K

Changing your fog lights to match your AE's?, Xenons?, More Output(Lumens)?

I changed my AE's over to some new 20W LED's and I wanted something to match them. I purchased the GP Thunder 7500K H11's and they matched perfect. Problem was that I didn't tighten one of the bulbs and it slipped out over a bump and fell down and busted. The shop that I got them from didn't have anymore so I went to ebay and purchased what I thought was another set of H11's GP Thunder 7500K bulbs. Instead of being a cool white like that last one they were really bright yellowish more so than white in color. I liked the other color better as it matched my AE's.

So I discovered there are two types of GP Thunder 7500K H11's. The light output of the Yellower H11 Fogs put out very good output(lumens) but not my color.

So if you are wanting a higher output inexpensive solution then try the GP Thunder 7500K H11's with the Black/Blue packaging which looks more professional in design. The tips of those are painted blue not silver like the ones that I originally had.

I have included pictures for reference. Some of the ebayer's call the Yellowish ones GP Thunder II.

GP THUNDER 7500K H11- with Whiter Color Range and Silver painted tips on top of bulb.



GP THUNDER 7500K H11 or GP THUNDER II 7500K H11's - Yellowish Range in color with good light output.



One of the Ebay sellers of the whiter lights / GP Thunder(I) are local to me so I will get a few pair tomorrow at their shop.

HID all the way I just installed a set of canbus hid ballasts and they work perfectly with no errors and brighter than any kind of regular bulb but not easy to install, have to remove front bumper. end result is totally worth it though

interested in your switch to HID for the fogs, can you provide some info on your retrofit

Had Hid on Fogs and Heads..no problem now for a year...and Fogs 6000k 55w im running and 6000k on Heads too..no problem..although the 1st week i put the hid..it would flicker then shuts off....i eliminated it by adding another anti flicker on the fogs...since the 55w came with anti=flicker attach to the ballast...just add another one and you should be fine....here is my X6 coded...

I have two sets of HID's that would fit the fogs. I just feel that they are too high up and that I would blind oncoming traffic. That is why I haven't done it yet. I put the LED 20W Crees there instead and they seem to do the trick.

When it is warmer out I might do the HID's just to see. Too cold out in the garage for me to mess with heater or not. I want warm all over

Technically... those HID lights will do nothing for you in a Foggy condition except blind yourselves. For a foggy condition, you will want yellowish light which will penetrate the thick mists... additionally you will want the lights as low to the ground as possible.

I think the X5's "Fog lights" are not really fog lights but sort of a driving light to help aid in driving in darkness with addition to the regular Xenon / Led Headlights.

Totally Agree with you there..since you live in NJ..remember prolly a week ago.we had one of those really FOGGY nights..and the lights just blinded me so i just turn them off heads n fogs....put my hazards on...and saw better with them off....

i just feel when i put Yellow on a BMW...i makes it IMPORT .....i rather suffer in foggydays and drive normal...no mix matching lights..lol..

Yellow doesn't work any better in fog than white, google it.

H11 halogen are some of the lowest output bulbs, not much you can do short of upgrading to HID.

I used this kit with h11 4300k bulbs to be closest to my oem headlights-

the install was not easy though, had to remove front bumper find a spot to mount ballast and a spot for the ground wire also the bulbs are longer so they are hard to stick into the light housing especially on the driver side. but no coding needed and no errors. i can post pics later

totally agree with you there hid wont help you in the fog but they just look sooo much better and 10 times brighter and i dont use mine as a fog light anyway just more like a driving light as you stated. i had the whitish kinds of halogen bulbs before on many of my cars and to me they just look cheap next to a hid light especially if you can see that hint of blue in the housing when they are not turned on

My LEDs don't have the blue color or bulbs and they seem to do alright in the fog. Of course they don't really project that much forward light. They just look good

The fogs are more driving lights as others have mentioned. I will try out the led lower air dam trim lights that some called cheesy. It's not that expensive to test out.

remove all the bolts or screws on top of the bumper just above the upper mesh grille under the hood, all the ones underneath the bumper should be 4 in the center 2 on each side and two in each of the wheel wells and give it a good tug start one side at a time and make sure all the clips and fasteners are in place when putting it back on.
