roof racks - Thule vs BMW

For my 2008 X5 - does anyone have an opinion about Thule vs BMW roof racks?

Option 1
The GF has a Thule rack system + box for her car (with the square bars, not the aero), and I could use the cross bars for my X5 and just get a set of feet to fit my roof rails for $190. That is the cheapest option, and I know I could use the box.

Option 2
BMW base support system for $285.
The box mounts to the bars w/ 3.5" wide U-bolts, and I'm not sure yet if they will fit the BMW cross bars. If I go this route, then I'm stuck w/ BMW roof rack accessories.

Option 3
Thule AeroBlade Edge kit for $340
This is the low profile, low noise system. Then I'm in Thule's world.

Just looking to see if anyone has any thoughts/experiences w/ BMW roof racks to share to help me make the decision. Thanks guys! mpp

If I am not mistaken, the BMW racks are re-labled Thule racks. I know that Thule accessories fit the BMW factory racks. Personally I would stick with the Thule and not go factory.

I have the BMW base support system, so factory crossbars. I used 2 different Thule boxes on them without any problems. The factory crossbars are definitely a larger diameter, so I could easily see issues with their size and certain accessories. But have not had any issues so far.

I too have heard that the factory system is relabeled Thule though. Also, you can usually pick up a set on the forums for much less than what you quoted above. I got mine on here for $150 with everything.

I've used both the OEM and Thule bars on an E70 MSport.

Both great options, OEM slightly quicker to fit...but beware if you plan to use the T slots in the bars, the BMW OEM bars have a wider slot and you need some different T bolts for example on the Pro ride 591.
