BMW X5 xDrive30/40/50d M Sport E70

Hello all,
I am soon giving in my 2007 BMW E83 X3 for a 2011-12 BMW X5 xDrive 40d M Sport E70 LCI with 306bhp and 0-100km/h in 6.6sec.
My question is what are the differences in the 30d/40d/50d M Sport versions. They all have the same engine(M57TU2D30)
Is it only ECU reprogramming with different boost/injection/timing?
Or there are hardware changes as well?

The 50d is considered a tri-turbo; the different turbos do different things either individually or with another.

30d one turbo, 40d two turbos and 50d three turbos - plus some other mods

My father had a 40d before his F15. Looked great in Deep Sea Blue...

I wish we had all those choices here in the US, instead we're just stuck with 1
