on a hunt of a E70M

hello fellas,

a little about me, last summer i was so close of trading in my GR subie(stgII) for a F30 M performance but in the end i decided to keep the subie.

the itch for a BMW has come back, so the last month or so ive been looking around to see what fits my criteria. test drove the F30M again(6spd) hated it. IMO the F30 NEEDS to be in the auto version. which none are on sale in my area. so that leads me to the E70M found one at a local dealership. 11 white/red, with just under 70k(km) and of course after much research its a safe bet to buy extended warranty. however i do plan on bringing it in to a indy shop to do a PPI and if that checks out i will most likely doing the switch. and finally my question is i do plan on keeping the car for a good 4-5 years so by then it will be shy of a 10 year old M. in that time frame i will probably put another 60-80k(km) i do have a daily for me to drive to work and back. and like many have asked before, how reliable is a 150k+(km) of course with maintenance done on time, every time. and lastly i do plan on changing oil around 5-8k depending how i drive it

anyways that is my situation hope to learn tons of info!

Reliability and M are just not congruous ... change your expectations and you may find a reason to make such a silly purchase decision.

When you wrote F30M are you talking f30 M-sport or f8x ///m car. I only ask that to understand if your talking about an E70 x5M or a e70 M-sport?

The S63 has had the same engine issues which has been covered in the N63 Customer Satisfaction recall but the S63 has not been part of that. Issues involve fuel pressure issues, EGR, coolant hoses as well as injector issues. As for any M car, they require more maintenance above and beyond BMW's recommended intervals for longer life and service/repairs always cost much more when you add the ///M to the car.

If you get into a ///M car and issues arise, just know you will have greater cost. If you can afford it then it is hard to beat an ///M car.

thanks for the advice guys

F30M i am referring to the 335xi M performance edition. which only had a limited run.

since all the indy shops are closed for the weekend, i will be calling a couple of shops tomorrow to get an idea on repairs/maintenance on the M.

There is a saying, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

If you are going with an extended warranty, many warranties require an existing warranty to be active.

Is this a CPO, does it come with a warranty? You should be covered for 2 years after the initial 4 year warranty expires, then purchase the extended warranty. I see no reason not to buy the X5M, It should last you 5 years, easily, if its not your daily driver. The two main issues with the E70 are the injectors and the front drive axle, both will be covered by BMW in the event they fail.

Edit;

Just got off the phone with Carchex they quoted me, at the end of my CPO warranty in 2017.. between 3-4k. To me thats not bad at all.

that is one of the reasons why this M is on the lower priced side. it is not CPOd. however i did purchase the extended warranty 3years/60k which is bumper to bumper(main concern was the injectors, 8k job -_-)
i am picking up the M tomorrow after work, i CAN NOT wait

That is probably the rear two hook cover. When it falls out, you should see a threaded hole which the tow hook can screw into. If the cover keeps falling off it may be broke and you may need to buy a new one

Yes those two cover the rear tow hook and there are two up front as well. I've lost two of the rear covers. It seems strange to only happen after the M has been to the dealer.
It cost me $50 for the two with paint.

thanks for the heads up! and no i did not go 3rd party warranty.

im gonna call a couple of indy shops and see if i can purchase warranty after my dealer warranty is up. is that possible?

another question is and pros/cons driving in M mode 24/7? cause thats what i tend to do as soons i start up the V8 i have a habit of turning on M mode. same with my subie, i get in and instantly turn on sportsharp mode for maximum power output.
