Blown Transmition
I purchased my New 2011 X5 M about one month ago. I decided to purchase the ESS Tune. Within an hour of tuning the engine I totally blew up my transmition. Went from extemly excited to unbelievably disappointed in a split second.

Update. Dealership told me that it was the transfer case that broke. I tuned the vehicle and within 20 miles my car broke down.
Yes this is my second post on the forum. I will tell you the 328i my dealership gave me as a loaner is just not the same as my x5m |

I was launching it when it happened. Luckily I had my computer in my car so I reflashed to stock immediately when I pulled over. Thank god I did because when I called road side assistance they were unable to tell anything had gone wrong. So far looks like the dealership is going honor the warranty. And yes I was trying to see how fast the car was but I didn't realize launching the car was abusing it. The guys at ESS told me that I can drive it however I want after the initial 10 miles.

So what happens when the dealer checks the computer for logged (abnormal) engine parameters like extra boost, etc? I remember back when I had a 335i this was a big deal, and dealers would be looking for irregularities and any signs of modifications.
Does the reflash back to stock take care of this or what?

Since not all launches are the same, could you give us an idea of where you were revving up to before the launch ? Were you able to get a few completed before the break ? Lastly how much torque were you tuned to with the ESS in ?
and No a 328i doesn't even compare to the X series of vehicles, but at least it's transportation.

For what it's worth, my new X6 xdrive50i didn't even get out of the dealership when the transfer diff blew up.
I arrived to take delivery all excited at finally seeing my new car. Imagine my shock when the first place I saw it was up on a hoist being stripped down. Immediately killed my first impressions and like of the car. I hadn't even driven it, seen it or anything, so BMW couldn't blame me at all. I had to wait quite some time for it to be resolved. Had it 2 months now and hardly driven it. The dealership were very good but overall I am left regretting selling my E60 for this thing. So, two transfer diffs does not make a trend, but mine was only being driven in the parking lot when it s%$t itself. Sounds like there could be a fault out there... Cheers J |

This was the first launch I did. I had only driven the car for 15 miles when I did the launch. I was at maybe 2500-3000 rpm's. I have no idea what ess set there parameter to. I do know that my car was flagged do to this website. And it is an axle that is broken. BMW is voiding my warrant. I am pretty upset. I guess the real word is sad. 15 miles with the mod

No offense asapx5m - but it just seems strange. You kind of appear out of nowhere and have this ESS tune story. To me it feels like you might have something against them. I do not mean to be attacking you, but I'm still having trouble believing this story (and that BMW somehow found you from this website). You don't need to prove anything of course, but I'd love to see the last 7 of your VIN (PM me, don't put it on the board of course). I'll then personally write the apology for doubting you. Serious.
