Help with tire sizes for 22"
Ok I need major help. I set up my new 22" wheels but I'm running the wrong tires being that I had no money for tires strait up! I'm tuning 265-30-22 and 295 25 22 front and rear. Car has a 1.2" drop. Now big question I was thinking of changin the rear tires to 305 35 22 and leaving the fronts as is.. Anybody have experience dealing with this I know the sidewal height will be totally different and it could cause problems just need to know if it's possible without damaging anything or would I also need to change the front tires as well...

If you were to run a staggered setup, your wheels should be wider in the rear like a 22x11 in the rear and 22x10 up front or similar. You just stated 22", not the width, are these staggered or not?
If you kept the 265/35/22 and added in the rear 305/25/22, now we're talking.... That's only within 1MPH difference front and rear. Doing a 305/30/22 would be a 4MPH different and may cause you issues with your trans/diff.

35 profile all around, but with staggered widths? No way.

I was going to say the same thing, try Tire Rack.
What I like to do is find the tire your looking for, then go to the 'specs' tab or section and see what the diameter is or the 'revs per mile'. I think factory standard, at least from what I've seen is a difference of like 7-10 revs per mile and about .3"-.5" difference in outer diameter (OD). So you'll usually see like a 35 series up front and then a 30 series in the rear. I'm not that familiar with tires that large (22") so I don't know that I could help ya more than that. The only other thing I'd do is contact several of these tire and wheel places that sell these 22" or 24" wheels and see what they recommend for something like this. I'm guessing that your main concern is ensuring that the XDrive doesn't get messed up and still operates properly. With that said, you could try BMW to see if they could tell you what the max difference in tire size can/should be, but I don't know if they'd know past the factory OEM wheels and tires. In either case, please post back with pictures and what you end up finding out!

Depends on how wide the rims are.
Since the OEM 21" size is 325/30R21, I definitely would not get smaller since your car would look like rolling out of the hood. Here a calculator to match similar tire sizes with the larger rims. http://www.techcons.at/index.php/abrollumfangrechner 345/25R22 would be a close fit. 0.36% difference. |

Sorry for the delay - must confess don't actually know and wife and kids are off skiing with it so I can't make a physical check. Supplied by BMW dealer in Auckland. I could have had them or the standard ones, went big, what the hell !

Finally the dealer advises ...
BMW300 M 22in copies "The wheels are made by WSP Italy. They actually supply a lot of wheels to BMW, Audi etc so they’re basically factory wheels". Yeah right - but a legit company at least ! Anyway very happy with them, the ride is great - better than the standard run flats 20's IMHO. |

Hi there, im a first time poster here too so please accept my apologies if im crashing your post!
I have bought a set of AXE EX30's (9x22 front ET20/10.5x22 ET25 rear) in 22's but i think the tyres on them are wrong in terms of overall variation. I havent a clue how to calculate them so if you could help that would be great! They have on: Front 285 30 22 & Rear 315 30 22 but im thinking this rear should be 335/25? Am i right in my thinking here? Also with this kind of offset ET20 front/ET25 rear does this work ok without any spacers? Ive seen that the offset should be ET40 front and ET30 rear? im not wanting an aggressive look and want to keep them within the arches on my Msport model X5 Chris |

Hi John, thank you for your reply and the calculators! they are fantastic.
It tells me on the calculator that my fronts on the AXE 22 wheels are now 5mm less on the inside to the strut and will need extending an extra 40mm on the outside edge of the new wheel to make it the same offset as my current 20's the rear they are saying is 15mm less clearance on the inside and to extend 35mm does this all sound correct? does this mean id need 35mm spacers rear and 40mm spacers front? i dont know much about this so im hoping spacers like this wouldnt cause any extra wear and tear on other items on the car and be totally safe? if not ill just sell them and buy the correct offset next time! |
