If you want to do it OEM then you will have to do a combox retrofit

I'll have to try this.
I have bluetooth in my car, I can connect my phone and talk through the car but I want to be able to do this with my music. Isn't this just something that can be programed? |

depends on if you have the combox or not, if so it is built in to the idrive, if not, than it won't do it as is. Combox is retrofittable tho

Yes, you can technically do it yourself. You need hardware and coding. Check out bimmertech. I believe it's 1k though so it's not cheap. Someone else that has done it can chime in with more details.

Bluetooth cellphone
I paired my phone via bluetooth. I can make calls and receive calls through the i-drive. Also, I can select music and play Pandora and Milk.
Here's a third option - you can run a hard wire from your phone's headphone jack into the car's Aux Input. |

Looking for more info from others that have done this as well... Going from the latest and greatest software/features in our 2014 to the older system in our 2010 has left us wanting more. I'd love the newer Nav software and also Bluetooth streaming audio...
Any help/advice would be appreciated. I checked out Bimmertech but they have a lot of options that need to be selected... How's their customer service?

I'm in the same boat, bought a CPO 2011 X5 for a tow vehicle and miss some of the toys my M3 had. I bought the bluetooth transmitter mention in one of the earlier replies and it works reasonable well as a speaker phone and music device. You obviously can't control your phone from the car controls but it works fine with a suction holder on the window.
The other change I made was adding a Fiio E11 headphone amp between my ipod and the audio input in the center console. I also bought the Bavsound speakers and between them the audio is greatly improved. |

This is the only thing I have found that is a realistic option:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B52LLJ6/...883V0UDD&psc=1 If you use an Iphone, it will do just about everything a Combox retrofit will do. If you use an Android, it will work for audio and do a great job, but you won't see any graphics on the stereo display. It will allow you to use volume and skip songs with the steering wheel, but no visual. Not perfect, but a better solution than paying close to $1k for the retrofit. Do a search on this product and you will find very positive reviews. |
