Automatic brake going down hill
My X5 seems automatically brake when going down hill. But I have not activated HDC on my X5. HDC light is off.
Any ideas of what is causing this? |

I assume cruise control is off.
Active cruise maintains speed and will brake as needed to prevent over speed. The 4 wheel drive system can feel as though braking is occuring but it is just the torque resistance. Hill descent control only works at low speeds so I doubt that is the issue. Try putting the car in neutral when going down hill, the car should release and go freely downhill.

my mistake. the HDC is not on by default i was thinking of something else. but it shouldnt be the hDC that is causing your braking during downhill b/c HDC slows your car to a constant 3-6 mph speed, unless you'er car goes that slow every time you go down a hill, shouldnt be that
