You should really get the Carly Bmw app. Used to be called bmwhat. It lets you read all the codes, clears them, and let's do thing like coding and battery registrations. App is on iPhone or android and their obd2 dongle is on Amazon. Total all in will be about $125 usd or so. It does not vin lock either so it will work on any Bmw. I highly highly recommend it. Will make you a much more informed owner when you take it in as you will already know what's wrong.

Just unscrew your gas cap before going in for service

^That would actually work? I plan to just tell them errors the dash cam guy pulled with or without the light.

Carly BMW app is $63 on the app store here.

No wiring needed. The dongle plugs into your obd2 port below the dash and connects via Bluetooth or wifi to your phone. Super simple.

sorry brother didn't want to scare u
did u install the lock mechanism?
this was the reason for my troubles (including calling AAA when I locked out myself out of the car)

I would also suggest Carly for BMW as Kimo mentioned, u can not only read and clear codes u can also do simple coding like removing seatbelt warnings, annoying welcome screen, changing number of turn flashes, brighten the headlights etc.

I did not bother with the locking mechanism. I didn't see the point as I wouldn't be able to insert the key portion of the fob in it anyway. So without that it was fairly a straight forward install but I had also watched youtube videos.

I looking into Carly and seems like a handy thing to have. Although the app is $63 or something it appears that lots of things cost further money from within the app. Plus, from what I understand, I need to buy a dongle from elsewhere as well which I need to figure out exactly what kind etc.

I might go for it seems like a handy thing to have if there are things you can do other than just reading error codes etc.

The dongle is theirs and you can find it on amazon. Others supposedly work, but I didn't want to risk anything. Especially coding wise.

about locking mechanism, I hear u but for whatever reason my car started to act weird once I removed it, I didn't have any problems installing the key hole cover without it! Also I was reading instructions from IND and they suggest having mechanism reinstalled! I know Kimo had this mod without issues and without that mechanism in, so u should be alright!
The Carly will run u about $120 for dongle and app, I also suggest getting the dongle from them, its still much cheaper then M Performance reader

Hmm now I am starting to think if the locking mechanism caused the engine sign to come up this morning. But then why would it go away since then. I don't know so confused.

is this u first BMW? they are pretty famous for having all kind of codes (including engine light) to come on from time to time, most of the time they go away.
I still have transmission malfunction message from time to time, it goes away and service never able to find any issues, I also had check light come on and off couple of times before, it goes away and it could be related to different issues or no issues at all.
I know this is not very comforting to know but this how it is!
Don't worry to much about locking mechanism, if everything works as expected u probably alright, in my case I had issues right away so I took care of it!

Haha this is not helping me overcome the little regret I have about switching for this from my m3 which was absolutely mint without any issues at all. And the colour was 1 of 1 in North America to the boot! Anyway let's see what they say tomorrow even though the sign is gone I still want it looked at just to be safe.

Dropped the truck off this morning, had all the issues documented. I was told that there was an injector recall and another recall which hadn't seemed to be done. So they will do that too. They will let me know what they find out I guess.

Until then, I am enjoying my crappy brand new 320. lol

Got the truck back today. They replaced the water pump, injectors and some other things that I can't think of right now. Apparently doesn't throw error codes or anything internally anymore and so far from what I've driven it, it has been fine too.

The recalls were free of cost anyway but thank God for warranty for water pump etc. Happy camper over here.

Flashed back to stock software this weekend. What's cool is the gauge showed an instant 7lb reduction of boost, which is exactly how much it showed gain wise when I flashed. Slow car is slow now.

Only have two small items left to remove; the p3cars gauge and the pedalhaus silver pedals. Appointment for the big stuff is at the end of the month.

Not many people are doing anything with their x5's eh. Guys remember it doesn't have to be crazy mods or anything like that. It can be something as simple as getting it washed!

Anyways I'll go. I got my dash cam removed to see if it resolves the high battery drainage issue. I am positive that it should but will find out for sure after parking it overnight tonight.

Plan to get a wash as it has been a while.
