2013 X5 50i tune - ESS
I searched the web for some comprehensive stuff on the tunes available for the X5 50i and I haven't found what I've been looking for. Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough but I just wanted to find something that documented the experience of selecting a tune, installing the tune, and comparing the difference between stock vs. tuned with some 0-60 runs to validate everything.
Last week I decided I'd go with the ESS tune for the following reasons: 1) ESS is a good company with a solid rep 2) The gains claimed by ESS for the 50i are very impressive 3) It only costs $995 and you can flash the ECU back to stock easily I bought my tune from here: http://esstuning.com/n63-e-flash-ecu...ance-software/ I feel like I didn't buy the correct tune because everyone else is paying so much. Maybe ESS dropped the price recently? Someone chime in if I screwed something up. For now all I can say is that the tune has been ordered and should be on my doorstep this Wednesday. I'll post an initial review of the tune after I install it along with daily/weekly/monthly posts containing valuable information regarding the vehicles new driving manners (or lack thereof...lol). I also plan to log some stock vs tuned 0-60 runs. Understand that my runs will not be on a track but it'll help for comparison to have some stock and tuned runs logged just to give us an idea of what the true gains are from the tune. Attached is a pic of my X5. Cheers everyone! |

What are the gains they are stating?
And what tools do you need to apply this tune? Just laptop and cable, or other software?
