Rooftop tent question
Yakima will be making available its Skyrise rooftop tent next year. I am very interested in getting it but I am concerned about the roof load capacity of my 2014 F31 wagon. I am posting it here in the X forum because the chance of someone who has a rooftop tent is higher than the 3 Series forum.
According to BMW, the wagon has an approved load capacity of 165 lbs. If you look at the FAQs of current rooftop tent makers, there is a difference between the dynamic load capacity (when the vehicle is in motion) and the static load capacity. The 165 lbs is supposed to be the dynamic load capacity, and if the rooftop tent makers is to be believed, the static load capacity is much higher. So has anyone attempted to put a rooftop tent on your vehicle? |

No Problem, static load is okay. The Roof (and rail) is strong enought for maybe 1000 lbs static. If you would crash it would support even the whole car weight.
Here on my e39 wagon i had back then love it For me the maggiolina is the better solution on the wagons, you can drive faster and it is more fuel efficient. The systen to unfold is better for offroad cars, when you go slow. By the way, me and my dad.. Last edited by X Driver; 07-28-2016 at 10:34 AM.. |

Welcome, if you like traveling by car you will not regret to have one of those.. So much cooler than a normal tent and you can close it with some sheet and pillows inside so you don't need to have them in the car.
I had in the maggiolina even a mid size camping table and the ladder in it. |
