Stock LED Corona Bulbs

Can I put 2012 stock Corona LED bulbs into my 2011 for the same 2012+ appearance, or are the Corona fixtures completely different for 2012+?

The latter. It's a completely different design. No bulb will come close to providing the 2012+ look.

I'm dealing with this in my E90 M3, all of which came with halogen coronas. Fortunately with these cars there are aftermarket options for retrofitting LED coronas, but none of these companies have options for the E70.

OK. So I can't take the stock LED 2012 bulb and put it into my 2011 to achieve the same light?

I have the LUX H8 160s and they do a decent job, I'd say they are the best on the market right now and do pretty well. However, you will not get the LCI brightness and daylight visibility short of an LCI conversion.

Thanks. It sucks, because my brother is going to be selling his 2012 soon. I have aftermarket LED Corona bulbs in my 2011, but obviously are not close to the 2012+ appearance. I was hoping to swap them out with his car before he sells it.

Are the headlights retrofittable ? I know sometimes BMW offers retrofit kits.

They may be, but I really didn't want to get that involved. Besides, knowing BMW, it'll probably throw a code, requiring registering the new kit at the stealership or some garbage like that. Not worth it.

You would, but probably more because of the vinyl multi-contour seats. Seriously.

You'd only cry if you knew the difference, and if you did you'd question why a 2012 had halogen coronas. But yah, would suck to buy a 2012 with the pre-LCI coronas.

The 2011 is LCI; just with halogen coronas.

Thanks. I doubt my brother would be receptive to that swap, but I appreciate the information.

On average you get an LCI every 4 or so years. And 8 years is the average platform life before being replaced with an all new from the ground up model. Sometimes sooner sometimes later.

It's just a way to keep it fresh and to keep sales strong and people interested in the product during its life cycle.

Thanks for the info. I was always racking my brain trying to figure that out. I have a 2011 35d that came with the halogen corona rings. I know some 2011 later models came with the LED's. Had i done more research i would of got a 2012.

The only 2011 model year X5's in North America to get LED coronas were later build diesels...build dates April 2011 thru August 2011 (approx). All 2011 gas models had halogens.
