X5M/X6M: Where best to buy winter wheel/tire setup?
I've searched Google; I've searched the forums; I've not found a really good answer for my X5M...
End of the month I'm relocating from sunny, summer-tire only Tampa to Kansas City. I've been all over looking for a good deal or at least a variety of options for a winter wheel/tire setup. I can find a plethora of tires, but the wheels, looking at 19" with the required F/R hub size, seems few and far between. I see some used options in the FS section, but nothing has hit me yet. I see at Tire Rack I can get a set, with TPMS, for ~$2K which is a great price point. Since I have to buy similar set-up for other cars, too, this seems like a reasonable number vs. going twice that for a BMW OEM wheel setup. But I'm looking for options. Concerned about eBay knock-off wheels for quality and hubs, etc. Anyone have suggestions or a link to help a brother out? Appreciate it! |

I'm not sure how many different types of 19 inch rims out there can clear the brakes, but i have the 298M for winter and they are such a tight fit
There is a set of these 298M for sale on in the classified, probably your best option |

Buy a set worry free from Tirerack or do research and buy used OEM off classifieds.
I say worry free so you don't have to deal with hub sizes and/or TPMS from Tirerack. For example I got a great deal off CL on aftermarket 20" wheels and snow tires for my X5, but they were made for last gen 4.8is which had different hubs front to rear. Had to then order H&R adapters which are actually spacers too, so needed new extended lugs. Even after all that the TPMS didn't work since BMW changed after 2010. With time wasted on this setup I should have just bought a set from Tirerack or OEM wheels to begin with. |

i bought a set off the classifieds,. It was a set of Factory 299M set up with Pirelli Ice and Snow. They performed flawlessly last year during our snow here. Had a couple of 8 inch slushy days and it felt like dry roads.
Tirerack has the tires in stock for $1546.

Can't help you from up North with links as you're on the best side of deals, I moved into M214s with OEM tires size, I didn't like the boring look of the 19"s and the Pirellis Winter Carving Edge are doing a decent job with the only 20 cm of snow so far...just my $0.02
