is the motor in a x6 a n54? the same as the 335i? Also does it have all the same probems as the 335i?

Yes, depending on the year its a n54 or n55.

Yes, the engines are the same across platforms. All the N54 engines share the same defects. I would recommend an N55 vehicle, they have they 8spd auto. It seems 2011+ have the n55.
