2010 X6 Active Hybrid vs. 2013 X6

Happy 4th of July Everyone,

I am a first time poster long time watcher of the forum. I am considering purchasing an X6 and have some questions. I am considering either a 2010 BMW X6 Active Hybrid with only 5k miles on it or a brand new 2013 X6. From reviewing the specs (an MPG & Green Perspective) the new 2013 models have better MPG than the hybrid. Can some explain the reason why and if they had the choice which one they would go with ?

Also, what is the general consensus on the BMW X6 Active Hybrids since they were only made for 2 years ?

Thanks,

All I know is that I was looking at extended warranties for an X6M, and at the bottom of the price sheet is noted that there wasn't one available for the active hybrid X6. If you can't get an extended warranty, that would make me nervous. Besides, there isn't a material difference in gas mileage anyway. If you are worried about gas, this is the wrong vehicle!

They have discontinued the hybrid. As noted, it did not get significantly better mileage than the non-hybrid and the trans/engine/etc are all highly modified/different. If you can get one with a long term warranty, then maybe. But why?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I confirmed that you can't get the BMW extended maintenance on the X6h.

To answer the second part of your question:

Pass. Unless the price difference between the two is truly a game changer.

Also, the 2013 has full LED lights and a new facelift. That is, if you care.

There is a $20K difference in price between a '10 active hybrid and a new 50i '13 so it's not exactly "apples-to-apples" price-wise.

Why wouldn't you just get a 2010 x50? It's not like the hybrid gas mileage is that much better?

There is only a 4 mile to the gallon difference so you are right, not much there. but the Hybrids DID come with a LOT of things STOCK that were optional on the 50i's and dealers tend to add those things up so you can actually pick up a fuly equipped Hybrid for (about) $5K LESS than you can buy the same model year 50i.

While true at first glance, it is 33% better

Still a vehicle that even BMW wont warranty is just scary.

I believe the issue with the warranty might be because of the cost of replacing the battery. USAA offered me a good warranty for just over $2k.

What does it say about the batteries? Are they covered under the USAA program or is their offer "void" of any verbiage about Hybrid power cells and thus omitted from coverage?
